Author Topic: Bye Bye, Windows 7  (Read 18567 times)

The Start Screen takes up the entire view, and only lists apps that Windows recognises as "Installed". That means that if anybody, such as me, needs to access programs frequently which are not connected to the registry, you ultimately are going to be wasting more time in the Start Screen.
Really? You mean, that's not what this little "Pin to Start" button does?

I'm pretty sure that is what it does.

Of course, none of that really matters, because whether someone likes it or not is pretty irrelevant to the issue at hand.

an argument starts in every thread on this forum it seems
My philosophy is if you partake in a argument, don't complain about it.

If the op didn't want a debate he could talked about how Windows 10 is coming and mention how Vista and 7 are nearing there life. Instead he was all like "Windows 7 is done, security updates from here on out."

You can blame
Its time for everyone to get with the times and upgrade to Windows 8.
and
Once Windows 10 comes out, I'm going to laugh at all you Win7 users who are clinging to a dead operating system. It's pretty much already become the joke about preferring XP to anything newer, stop sulking in your comfort of the familiar and try something new.

After reviewing the thread it pretty much cooled down after four pages. The current state of affairs could be described as a small hot ember on a large piece of ice.

I'll upgrade to Windows 8 when I get the money. Or Windows 10 if it's out by the time I get enough money.

I'll get win8 when I have the money

Other than that I'm staying with win7

since the last two posts were about win8 and money...

...if you're a college student go get the student version of win8.1.

$70 bucks for windows 8.1 pro. you get a key and a iso the same day.

you'll get windows 10 for free upon release too.

i think MS allows me to buy another copy via my email too so maybe i can hook you guys up maybe??? not sure.

either way you'll still get security updates for the remaining people waiting for windows 10. i will say after using the tech preview microsoft didn't just go back with the start menu, they went back to the way it was in the first version WITH the start menu: windows 95.

it acts so strangely without the sidebar with the quick links. i want those back so badly but we'll just have to wait and see.

i'm very happy with win8.1 on both my laptop which came with the discs of windows 8.1 but i used my pro iso since there was a key on this PC on the bios and essentially i can use any version of win8.1 i want and it will still be legally activated. the restore disks, which i actually used, took a few hours to restore the OS on the laptop and was very clunky and bloated with stuff i'll never use. that's why i used my copy of win8.1 on here instead of the crappy lenovo windows.

other than that, i will say this about the subject of windows 7: it feels so goddamn ancient to use after using windows 8/8.1 for so long. under the hood, windows 8.1 is just crazy compared to what windows 7 has. the execution of the OS wasn't too hot, obviously mentioning the forced tablet experience on all platforms. makes sense on a tablet or a touch enabled device, not a desktop or laptop.

thankfully startisback+ exists (i don't like start8 that much) and other alternatives like bringing back the explorer.exe from windows 7 into 8.

so tl;dr: for the people waiting to buy win8.1, you'll love it after you get rid of the tablet stuff.

I'm surprised you haven't heard of businesses training employees how to use specialised programs or how to do tasks on a computer.

loving, DAMNIT BILL GATES!

"upgrade"

Some colleges offer it for free as-well.

yes they happen to do if you're on the big dreamspark account.

though if the school stops paying for their account you actually lose your key as well.

Oh joy of joys, now it will be even harder for me to run my favorite old games, such as:

  • Total Annihilation
  • Sim City 3000
  • Transport Tycoon Deluxe
  • Star Trek: Voyager - Elite Force
  • Star Trek: Elite Force II

Maybe I should invest in a cheap machine and see if I have an old copy of Windows XP lying around.

Compatability mode?

Compatability mode?

ST:VEF doesn't work even in compatibility mode under Vista and 7.  I can only imagine that two or three of the others would break going from 7 to 10.

What do you mean you lose your key?

both elite force games work fine for me on win 7, the hell is wrong with your install?
