Author Topic: So my playstations decided to automaticly shut off after 3 beebs  (Read 1123 times)

And now the fan is spinning like a loving maniac, what the forget?
I haven't used my ps3 in like a month or so?
theforget is going on ;-;

It might've overheated, have you checked the fan to see if it's full of dust?

It could possibly be overheating. I haven't had issues with my ps3 before so I don't know for sure, but usually if the screen shuts off and the fan goes hard on anything, it's due to overheating.

Try cleaning the bottom/back of the console to pick up dust (could be clogging the vents).

Stop typing faster than me Ike

I haven't used it in a month and didn't even play a game today, I doubt it was overheating.
I pulled out the power and plugged back in and it seems to work back.
I still have no idea what happened, I even contacted playstation support and they also had no idea what was going on.

could be a dumb question but did you check to make sure if the VGA cable/HDMI input was selected or vice versa?

when you power your ps3, if you keep holding it down it changes the video input (also does 3 beeps) from VGA to HDMI (or HDMI to VGA)

if this doesn't fix it thought, you will want to do it again to change its input back the way you had it

If you hadn't used it in a month, it could definitely have been dust. Glad to hear it's fixed though.

Porbably, I'm going to try to 'vacuum' it out tomorrow to make sure.

whatever you do, DO NOT use a vacuum on it. you could accidentally suck up components in the machine.

instead, take it outside with the side taken off and use an electric leaf blower on it. I did that with my old Windows 98 desktop a few years ago and it cleaned it right out.
if something loose blows out you can easily pick it up and re-attach it.

I wouldnt use a leaf blower, use some compressed air

lol no. Unless he's opening it up and and sticking the vacuum cleaner right up close to everything there's nothing to worry about. Using a leaf blower on it sounds far more risky.

Don't use compressed air, it can blow the dust deeper in.

yeah a can of compressed air is not a good idea here, mostly because it's impractical compared to a leaf blower.

well, you'd have to stick it up real close to get the dust off. and that's especially since most vacuum cleaners are nowhere near as powerful as leaf blowers.
as long as you know what you're doing, there's no risk at all to using a leaf blower.
