My mom started me out with getting me every vaccine the doctors wanted to stick me with. In my first year, she said I probably got upwards of 20 doses of stuff I don't remember. I think my brother got the same treatment for a while too. Then my oldest cousin (born in 2001) was diagnosed with severe autism. He had been vaccinated regularly just like me, but we didn't even consider the possibility. Then his younger brother had a direct reaction to a vaccine which caused him to have seizures requiring hospitalization. Both his mom and my mom flipped their lids and they both went cold turkey on vaccinating their kids for a couple years.
Neither of them are totally against vaccines anymore, but I hope no one is ignorant enough to understand that they were rather freaked out against such an issue caused by a vaccine. We get all the vaccines where the tiny fraction of a reaction (hue) is better than possibly getting a life threatening or highly contagious disease (MMR, tDaP, dTaP, meningitis, plus others that I forget), but anything that either brand new, unknown, or more skeptical than helpful are not usually considered. The only exception to this is flu shots, which we sometimes get, sometimes don't. My mom started making us get those again since I live in a large family so it's hard to get it out of the house once it starts. But with the recent ineffectiveness on this past vaccine, my mom is very pissed and wishes she hadn't made us get it. She also orders vaccines to be 100% preservative free.
It's funny to think though. I tend to have a lot of tendencies for autism spectrum disorder, but was never formally diagnosed. My oldest cousin has severe autism. His younger brother had the seizures. But once our parents cut the cord on vaccines for a while and became intelligent with them, WHOA, not any of my brother, youngest cousin, or four sisters have ever had a reaction to a vaccine or gotten a developmental disorder. Sure, it may be a coincidence. But why should we allow some doctor who is only following a preset guideline to inject stuff that may or may not be needed? I mean, alcohol in children can cause developmental disorders. So can other drugs. What's in vaccines? DRUGS! Are the drugs bad? WHO KNOWS? Are they causing developmental disorders? WHO KNOWS? But why assume we have safety from a possible week of discomfort and have the chance of being sorry later? We aren't scientists. We aren't just going to listen to someone who says, "Ya we ran some tests the vaccines aren't causing autism. Here, gimme your arm."
I'm not totally against vaccines, just saying before this post is pulled apart and nitpicked. I just think that a vaccine should be observed and researched before asking a doc to inject it and assume you're in the clear.
