maybe we should make marriage a completely religious thing and take it away from the government

si

similarly to how treating people of different races unequally was a completely private thing until the government started to enforce that it wasn't OK

i mean it does sound a lot better because the government also wouldn't have the power to shift it in a bad direction but private institutions can't always be trusted with fairness

let's take marriage

and push it somewhere else

marriage isn't a private institution, it's a concept

a winner

right. it's a cultural universal, not even necessarily religious. the private institution there was referring to "completely religious thing" [specifically churches or similar] and not to "marriage"

obviously marriage can't be trusted with fairness lol

this is only after courts began overturning the laws and the resulting the media crusade in favor

why do people always compare this to the civil rights era? blacks were never given equal services which is why the policies were overturned

gays are not subject to inferior services on every level and are not discriminated against by both the public and the government
1. it doesn't matter what the series of events is. The majority of Americans approve it and that's that.

2. It's nowhere near as bad, don't think I'm suggesting that.
But what you're suggesting is along the lines of "separate but equal"
It's creating a sperate thing when there's no need for it

i think it's important to note that, even if the majority believes something, they aren't in the right to abuse the minority. obviously, this isn't that kind of situation, but it's a necessary appendage

im just staying out this time

ah yes majority rule makes everything perfectly fine

Marriage equality is loving stupid. Marriage is a Christian tradition. What is a Christian tradition doing anywhere near the government? What happened to the separation of church and state? There should be a legal national binding thing where you can marry your wife/husband/dog for whatever tax benefit you get out of marriage and Christians can keep their heteroloveually exclusive traditions within the confines of their churches.

Marriage is a concept that predates Christianity. Is it also a Christian tradition to claim other cultures' traditions as their own?

Yet it's still done by a priest in a church.
