Author Topic: Per-Client Environment settings (and music)  (Read 1652 times)

I'm guessing a HUD with animated bitmaps but it will require a client add-on and every frame (unless BL's HUD GUIs support gifs which I doubt) giving considerable weight to the file.
The same way they help with everything else with a UI: not relying on 50 /commands you need a manual to remember.
I can't tell you how many times I had to dig up old topics because I couldn't remember a specific command or function. I really wish mod makes would stop taking the easy way out.
What? You can't solve this with HUD elements any more than you could solve a raging house fire with a shovel. I have no idea what the intention was here. Commands are irrelevant; this isn't a request for a specific mod, just a functionality to be added to the engine.

Yes, perhaps in this situation sure. My response was for a more general range on the odd stigma against GUI/HUD support. I'm not saying anything about how it should/how it could be done as that's much past me.

Either way, client environment is something I've wanted and suggested before.
I just hope future modders don't mess it up with /commands.
That, in its entirety, is all I meant by my comment.
Christ. I should just start off with the explanation next time...

God bless the USA ;_;

If Badspot implemented the engine changes, the mods that use it would probably come in various forms, from RPGs that leave it all in the script, to a set of client output events, probably even hallucinogenics in a drugs mod.
Edit: Holy forget I just realized you could make proper night vision goggles with this.

I understand the complaints about how controlling mods can be dumb when they work through slash commands, but there aren't many other options in most cases. Yeah you can make a GUI for it, but first of all that means you need a way to open it, either contributing to an ever growing set of keybinds for the users or cluttering up some other GUI, and second of all it means a server mod turns into a server/client mod, and other admins on the server need it to properly utilize it. Best option so far is RTB prefs but those are limited in what you can do with them. Blockland by default needs some dynamic menus that work like that, but that's a suggestion topic for another day.

This would be extremely perfect for planets if this was ever made.
