Author Topic: Tezuni - Removing Credit from RL / Glorified Paywall  (Read 41093 times)

Yeah i really don't see the issue here. He pays for his own servers and needs the donations. Offering cosmetic features to people who donate is a good way too get those donations.

Its not like he's taking credit for the add-on, so I don't really understand why you're mad about him removing someone who's been banned multiple times from the credits.

the donations are for EVERY server, not just rising lava. most of the servers besides prison escape do not have good perks at all

I guess taking features out of a gamemode and then making you buy them is considered donations, it defeats the purpose

They don't give any benefit, its like paying for skins on CSGO there is no benefit but people want to do it because it looks cool. Just because someone else doesn't want to pay that doesn't mean it isn't right for the host to sell it.

A local hospital in my town gives out hot chocolate and fruit snacks when people donate blood, I guess it defeats the purpose of donating blood right?

yes but what if they originally gave it out if you came in the building, now you have to donate to get it

I don't recall any Rising Lava server that gives out free trails

This.

And don't give me that "oh its free if you work to get the coins!". Time is not free.

I think it's a ripoff, who'd pay 25 dollars for a trail? Does donating give you anything else?

you arent forced to buy the trails tho

How is donating money a ripoff? Enlighten me

its not forcing you to buy the trails/donate
also removing zapk's name from the gamemode isn't really that big of a deal, its his server and he can do what he wants with it, no matter how hard you try its not going to stop people from playing the server, around 75% of the game doesnt go on the forums, plus he didn't take the code and sperm around and call it his, he just removed 4 letters and edited the code to fit in with his other servers.

The "exclusive" trails for VIP, Sponsor, and Platinum status are just part of what giving donations will give a person. Sure, they aren't available without donations, but you aren't just paying $5+ for a trail. For example, VIP grants access to a limited area in the prison (plus some exclusive weapons/items, ability to change teams without relying on /jointeam and it's player count limit, optional playtime as the warden, teleporting to yard/free play, etc), a tag next to your name, special weapon(s) on the CTF server, as well as trails.

And I think that giving players an incentive to donate to the server is beneficial and smart. It keeps the server running for those who enjoy it and gives access to special features.

And as for the "stealing credit" issue, he isn't proclaiming that he invented rising lava. He is removing Zapk's name from everything almost in a way to prevent "copyright" issues. In giving an example, it's like a cell phone company taking the iPhone's design, changing some cosmetic/mechanical details, and giving it a new name. They can't get in trouble for it by stealing the name/design now, because it is different now.

Plus, Zapk hasn't said anything about it from what I can tell. If he indeed doesn't care, then why does it matter?

verb
verb: donate; 3rd person present: donates; past tense: donated; past participle: donated; gerund or present participle: donating

give (money or goods) for a good cause, for example to a charity.

A micropayment is a financial transaction involving a very small sum of money and usually one that occurs online. A number of micropayment systems were proposed and developed in the mid-to-late 1990s, which were ultimately unsuccessful. A second generation of micropayment systems has emerged since the 2010s.

While micropayments were originally envisioned to involve very small sums of money, practical systems to allow transactions of less than 1 USD have seen little success.[1] One problem that has prevented the emergence of micropayment systems is a need to keep costs for individual transactions low,[2] which is impractical when transacting such small sums[3] even if the transaction fee is just a few cents.
