Censorship by the government is something I don't like generally but I think banning hate speech is acceptable

Anything else is fair game. I don't think that places like reddit NEED to harbor communities of white supremacists, fascists, etc. in the name of an "open platform". That being said, one of their stated goals is to provide a place for most kinds of speech. I don't agree with this goal but if you are holding them to their stated ideals rather than some misapplied notion of free speech then I understand why people might not like some of their recent decisions

it depends on the circumstances, censoring can be used to prevent mass panic and let people actually fix things without having to deal with the public outraging because they can't know all the details
on the other hand censoring can be used to save politician's asses

I wouldn't say censorship is ever justified, but there's some commonsense limitations to free speech that I agree with, like:

• Preventing mass panic, i.e. "shouting fire in a movie theater"
• Punishing libel, but only when the damage is completely provable
• Limiting the types of clothing worn in public institutions, like schools and courtrooms
