Changing the saturation/brightness etc is cheating and doesn't loving count. Every handicap who says that it does clearly needs to have their brightness switched turned way the forget up, because they're a dumb moron.

Hi! me and some other grad students have been discussing this for the last half hour. It's likely due to some kind of colour constancy illusion, where some people are perceiving the context to be something like "lit by blueish daylight" and others are perceiving it to be something like "under yellow department store lights." In the former case, your brain will try and get the objective (if such a thing can be said) colour by subtracting out the blue as a shadow, and in the latter case it will do the same thing for the filigree by subtracting out the yellow as a reflection. This is a common illusion in psych : See here^[1] . but it's not seen that often 'in the wild,' even though your brain does this constantly.

I'm pretty sure this is an illusion similar to the checker shadow illusion^[1]
Some people are seeing it as a white and gold dress in a bluish shadow, others are seeing it as a black and blue dress in a yellowish light as seen here^[2]  .
Hope this helps. I saw it as white and gold, girlfriend saw it as blue and black. She can switch between the two perceptions now but I can't.
Edit: I can see it as blue and black now.
Cover up the right two thirds of the photo and try to think of it as a blue and black dress in a crappy washed out photo with yellow lighting. You'll get it.
Edit 2: Wow, this got a response! For the people who see white and gold, does this^[3]   image help you perceive it as black and blue? /u/daleygaga^[4]  edited the original image to correct the overexposure.
Edit 3: To the blue/black folks asking how to see white/gold, the only advice I can personally offer is to try to imagine the dress is in shadow against a bright background. If anyone else has been able to make the switch from blue/black to white/gold, let us know how you did it!

What I think is going on is everyone's monitors have different contrast and brightness which causes the illusion of the blue looking white, Or the gold looking black.
