"Submariners are assigned tedious and time consuming busywork to keep them from murdering each other, but that is more out of necessity. I don't think its healthy when there are other options,"

"I'm not sure, I guess it's just I think about others more than I should. It's an easy subject to think about and kill time."

She just stares for a moment. "...right. We'll work on it."

Cualli turns back to the part she's working on. "So what's your favorite thing to do around here?"
: Walk the dogs.

"Submariners are assigned tedious and time consuming busywork to keep them from murdering each other, but that is more out of necessity. I don't think its healthy when there are other options,"
Coaxoch just shrugs.
: Sometimes there are no other options.

"I'm not sure, I guess it's just I think about others more than I should. It's an easy subject to think about and kill time."
: I've never really understood that mindset. It's confusing to me.

"I wouldn't know how to explain that myself, It's always seemed to be something I've done naturally."

"Not many, I suppose,"

Jaakko takes a bite of his food. He speaks up again after he finishes.

"What are you planning on doing in Kintharia anyway? I'd bet it would be hard to find a job with all the mechanization over there," he says.

"How come? Which one's your favorite?"
: I still get them confused. The small one, I believe.

: We still are not sure yet. Maybe it will end up being difficult, but I am sure it will be preferable to the alternatives. I would rather die than live in Mercana, and the obsession many of your people have with "freedom" without fully understanding what it means is very hard to deal with.

"Is that the freedom to own a man or women as property, or the freedom to use drugs?" Jaakko asks in deadpan.

"Is that the freedom to own a man or women as property, or the freedom to use drugs?" Jaakko asks in deadpan.
Musashi rolls her eyes and Coaxoch briefly closes hers, taking a deep breath before continuing.
: You are missing the point. What I am saying is that someone who is born "free" and assumes it to be a right of all living things will have a very different idea of what it means than someone who spent the first twenty-four years of her life in servitude and had to earn their freedom.

Walter finishes off his drink and sits for a bit until his eyes drift on the clock

"hmm, well, You want to head back now?"

"That those who are born with rights value them less or do not grasp their magnitude? I can see that, sure, but it doesn't justify enslaving people and forcing them work as free labor, just so that they can 'grasp the magnitude of their freedom,'" Jaakko responds.

Gus looks at Musashi and Coaxoch, shaking his head slightly and mouthing the word "sorry". His ears start getting warm from secondhand embarrassment.

: First, the labor is not "free". Second, are there not cities in Aesthia which exist only to be cheap, nearby housing for badly paid workers for the local corporation? How can you condemn our way of life when your country performs similar practices on an industrial scale?

Walter finishes off his drink and sits for a bit until his eyes drift on the clock

"hmm, well, You want to head back now?"
: Sure. I'd offer you a ride, but the bike only seats one.

: I still get them confused. The small one, I believe.
"Do you ever pet 'em?" she asks, grinning a bit. "Or let them lick your hand?"

"I certainly doubt the slave benefits from the labor. And you want to talk about industrial scales? Half of the Delta's inhabitants were slaves. Your country needed slaves so bad that you were linked to a human trafficking operation in Gervasia. I'd bet if your countries slaves were freed then the Delta would have broken up faster than when they all realized we were steamrolling them. Nor do we have Aesthian poor fight in gladiatorial pits or commit to terms of service just to stop being second class citizens," Jaakko retorts.

He looks unamused.
