Tippy shouts "FIRST" and opens up on the remaining ship
Already on its last legs, the corvette is overwhelmed by the additional hundred or so holes punched into its hull.

Walt slightly frowns to himself  "They're defenseless - they could have at least saved some lives Tippy."
It's too late, the ship is already going under.

The mission is concluded, you may now return to base.

i wouldn't say this is the correct term for someone who shows mercy

"Defenseless yet given every opportunity to return home and fuel the fire for a continuing war. Forgive me if my moral obligations are to end the war as quickly as possible. Their little panic boats can scrape up what remains of the surviving crew, but they don't get to take that war machine home with them."

Roger remarks snidely over the comm

"Why don't you tell the rest of the flight why you REALLY joined the air force, Taylor? IT was never about ending the war. You're looking for someone."

I would say that you need glasses.

"Gods damn…" I remark.

"Even if that loving ship returned home, it would be a couple of years before it would be loving fixed,"

Tippy fights to control her anger.

"This conversation is over. You stand upon ice, Witsky."

I switch my communications over to the naval channel.

"Admiral - Pleasure serving with you today, hope to work with you again sometime."

I swap back the comms

" Good job today guys, see you back home."

"That thing wasn't going anywhere with our fleet right there, they could've saved some of our guys too - What's done is done though."

I watch another dye streak be disturbed by another underwater object, and squint as if it would help.

I make nothing of it, and refocus my attention to the unruly squadron mate.

"Never thought anybody would show sympathy for slavers and fascists. Just shows how forgeted up-"

Faw stops himself before saying something very disagreeable.

"Nevermind. Over and out."

"Have you heard of the monstrosities that inhabit this region of ocean. It's one thing for this stuffty patch of sea to be so gods damned loving cold, but it's another thing to get pulled under and evicerated by one of these killer fish. They kill whales and eat people. It's not exactly a dignified or painless way to die. I feel bad for the slaves, forced into such a service. forget me for believeing in human rights though,"

"Do you think the Huits gave our ships that consideration when they were blowing us to kingdom come with conventional weapons?"

"Not at all, but the least we could have done is show some mercy for the last, crippled, defensless vessel of their fleet,"

I pause.

"Did you look at the Huitz in the life rafts though? They are scared stuffless, the way they are acting. I saw them. I saw, or at the least, I believe I saw them shooting into the water when one of those dye streaks was smeared by one of those fish,"

"Then they should've just given up when the rest of their fleet left them. White flags still work, right?"

Faw pauses and sighs into his headset.

"They wouldn't have given any of us the same mercy you wanted to give them."

After you land, you find out that intelligence theorizes that out of the 2,700 Huitzitlaotani salors killed in the engagement, about 62%, or 1,700 of them were indentured servants. You feel the sudden need to dismount from your high horse.

"Sorry to interrupt, but have we gotten any word of who we've lost today? An entire fleet was vaporized, Tom was shot down, along with most of our companion flight. Is there anybody left?"
In addition, 1,593 Kintharians are unaccounted for and about half as many Mercanans.

on an unrelated note, here's a hastily-made map of the different factions

Tippy exits her plane and puts her feet on the ground. She rotates her shoulders and pops a few bones.

"If anyone needs me i'll be in my quarters wishing i was drunk."

She briskly leaves the hangar.

if the majority doesn't decide to carve out their own path then that's their problem. they had the opportunity and the means to surrender and rebel, especially when friendly elements were nearby, but they chose not to. it's their fault.

Landing in 3... 2... 1...

You're good.

Faw touches down on the tarmac as crew shuffle towards the jet. He pops the roosterpit open, and climbs out of the jet, sliding off the side. Faw inspects the various holes and tears in the shell of his aircraft.
