I climb onto the aircraft and approach Tippy. I stand on the center-rear of the fuselage and hold my arms out to the sides, genturing to the aircraft.

"Here's your airframe, I mean, it's not NAUC's and if the rebels are using trucks with aircraft rocket pods on the back as artillery, who would give a forget if they got a jury rigged Tomcat?"

I look at the aircraft.

"What projects would you have back at base? loving with the TV's to be able to change it from Gladiator Crashers to Skeleton Man?"
"Actually something more stubborn than that. You know how computers can be." (She is of course referencing that robot she picked up back on base.)

Tippy looks at the craft lustfully. Then an idea pops in her head.

"I would really love to take this thing home... i have a brilliant idea that would make this thing fit for modern air combat."

I'm a bit shocked that she isn't actually joking.

"-I was going to say the Corsair seems to have a similar design. Perhaps it's even one derived from the F-14..."

I look around the aircraft, still in disbelief that she's actually loving serious.

"How do you plan on getting this thing home? Sure there's plenty of aircraft to cannibalize for parts, but it's not registered to our airforce- Perhaps command would be so surprised that they just blow it off and let you keep it,"

"It'd be the same as some people buying old tanks from the war and fixin them up recreationally... or at least thats the idea. I'm not a hotrod or even a tank person despite my history with treaded vehicles. But the added bonus is that i could add hardware that a civilian couldn't. But you're right, command might be a little weirded out we are taking this thing home. Unless the team all pitches in and convinces them. Group project for Morale?"

"Isn't it convenient that I have an Aerospace Engineering degree? I'd have to think about. Right now I'm thinking that there's a lot of stuff you can get away with in war. I remember reading a piece about how some Porlaqs took a stuffty LaGG-whatever aircraft and field-modded it, making it from the worst fighter aircraft ever built to one of the best. Granted, no amount of upgrading will bring this thing up to speed with the Corsair, but I think we could get close- if we have the right stuff,"

I eye the aircraft and shake my head. She's loving serious.

Tippy was smiling under her Helmet. Though you couldn't see it.

"No amount of upgrading you say? You may be an Aerospace Engineer but I'm a tank mechanic. And we make any vehicle do what we want. We should see if we can get the other flight members to vote to bring it in, it can't hurt to try."

"I maintain that point of view. You can't really change the basic structure of the airframe. Not here at least, and not even at McNamara without immense resources that command won't give us. Sure, you could put in more powerful engines, and maybe even a third of you were absolutely loving crazy, but you can't change the structure of the airframe, and at that, you can't make up the difference thirty years makes in metallurgical processes.

I haven't looked at the Corsair's production details, granted they are more than likely classified, but I would guess that it's airframe is some type of titanium alloy. Most likely with steel or aluminum, and possibly other stuff to cut even more weight and add strength. This airframe, without a doubt, is an aluminum alloy.

Also, I don't know if anybody else would be willing to work with you, or, us, because- let's be honest. This is loving crazy, and I'm crazy for believing you when you say that we could do this,"

"Don't think too much about the physical aspect. I'm more than aware of our limitations there. But I'm thinking something a little more...mental."

Tippy finally steps away from the F-14 and goes to look her jet over for repairs.

"Crazy– crazy– crazy- crazy bitch," I mutter as Tippy leaves my sight.

I figure that adding a third engine would cause there to be a need for a couple thousand pounds worth of questionably effective reinforcement to the airframe, which could cause a need for larger wings, which would need more reinforcement, which could need larger wings again, and tuning of the mechanisms the move the wings back through the process.

The f-14 doesn't even need to change physically. Modern hardware needs to be added yes, but other than that the plane is actually fine as-is. That and Tippy's idea should the plane be obtainable.

Jaakko is going to follow along with what ever tippy does.

the f-14 is not going to be obtainable. it is an almost half-century-old design that has been rendered totally obsolete by more modern planes in the setting, and to top it off the malantan planes are in poor condition and would have to undergo an absurd amount of repairs and restoration before being remotely fit for service by aesthian standards
the amount of resources and man-hours required to fix up one of these heaps AND modernize it is simply infeasible

Jaakko's controller needs help developing his moral/ethical/plot line in general, and needs character development. He hasn't been able to flaunt aspects of Jaakko's character.

I try not to think about what I did to the gas station, then calm myself by telling myself that nobody was in it, they would have evacuated when they saw the gigantic loving air cruiser.
"[Ark's exhaust, what did I do?]"
I almost have a nervous breakdown.

I think Jaakko could fill a void in Tipsters heart if yah know whatimean~
