"I know we can't do anything for him, but couldn't we stick him with morphine and move on?"

Rask kicks the downed soldier to roll them onto their back and takes aim at their head. The trooper, now staring down the barrel of Rask's gun, puts his hands up.

Jaakko approaches the shoulder piece and picks it up.

The unit insignia's backdrop resembles a quartered heater shield. In the center is a sallet-type helmet, behind which are a crossed cannon and war pick. Above the shield is a banner with some gothic numerals written on it, and below is more gothic text Jaakko can't quite read.

Jaakko turns decidedly away and starts moving towards the VTOL, shoulder pad in hand.

Rask plugs the guy five times and catches up with everyone else on board the VTOL. Virvel notices you coming aboard and asks what the next course of action is.
: Crash, I don't know if you overheard, but our number two engine is kinda forgeted up. It's still working, though, so what's your call? We pick up Gaffe and head back or do we push it and try to recover some of the guys farther downtown?

Whatever you pick you're going to have to live with. It was a phrase that he'd remembered his parents saying.

"How many people do we have now, and how many are still out there?" he asks.

The medics bag Krupin's body and bring it on board, and the VTOL lifts off once everyone is ready.

"I'm seeing sixteen people we already have. I say we get Gaffe and turn back. If we push our luck, I fear it will all be for nothing,"

Both of the choices had sickened Jaakko, but to risk everyone to save the rest of them was to risk losing more than they'd have or gained.

Virvel takes the VTOL a short hop away to another intersection a few blocks from Gaffe's transponder (Gaffe can hear the engines from where he is).
: I'm not gonna get any closer than this, don't want to risk losing the engine. Out you get!

The rear door opens, and the rescue team disembarks.

Jaakko spots movement out of the corner of his eye about thirty meters away; the door to a general store slamming shut.

"Movement from that loving building!" He calls, pointing with his forward hand before returning it to the grip and scanning the building.

Rask takes his squad (minus medic, both of whom are staying behind to treat the wounded on the VTOL) and begins carefully advancing towards the location Jaakko pointed out.

Graf communicates to the squad over radio.

"This is Hilbert Graf, I hear the VTOL from here. On my way."

He runs towards the VTOL, zig-zagging around and ducking his head to avoid any sniper that might want to take a shot of him as he runs.
