i don't want to be rude but you really do come off as pretentious
I guess. I don't mean to. I just like to assume that maybe in my weird way I'm helping people by telling them straight, instead of giving them a false-impression. It probably doesn't help that I get angry pretty easy (a fact anybody in various Skype calls can attest to).
I don't believe I mention being "better" than people. I in fact keep saying I've never released a game because everything I've made is stuff. What I do say is that because I've studied a lot, I like to believe that I've got a better grasp on the theory of games and so I'm really good at explaining concepts and pointing out how things logically work out, and I also like to think that knowing the theory of how games work is just as important as knowing how to make games, but not many people study the theory side.
What happened with me and FNAF3 today will probably be embarrassing to me down the road. I got angry because it's a particularly sore subject for me. I appreciate that people enjoy the game, but I don't necessarily believe people are enjoying it for the game itself and rather instead enjoy the game for its atmosphere, its characters, the art and the community/community works that surround the game. I believe that you suck the core gameplay out and replace it, and fans wouldn't care at all because their favourite elements would still be there.
Nonetheless, I'll stand by my arguments at this point in time. I don't think the gameplay is deep or complex enough for it to be overly successful on its gameplay alone. I personally think that the lead developer should have moved on and worked on a completely different title. It's clear he has at least some skill at Unity (maybe not with UI design or making in-game settings menus) and I figure if he worked on a broader range of game titles, he might do very well in his career.
