The United States highly disagrees with such an idea.

Leaving NATO without any sort of real reason, ESPECIALLY during a conflict in which you were called upon, would be grounds for disapproval and even other harsher things.

The United States gives a directive to Germany:
Assist us in the war, as the collective defense terms of NATO policies decided.

Don't, and be marked as a political, can't really find the better term for this IC, but "pusillanimous individual".
Oh, and basically turning your back on the entirety of NATO. (gasp)

This is an alliance. He's being called into war.

He could have left (and I would have understood ofc) during peace time.

that doesn't mean he has to fully mobilize - unless you already know that

he can simply help with just a squadron of fighters i believe

Yes, but he has to properly contribute to the war effort to what would be convenient to him but also what other members would have done for him.

Lazily throwing a couple planes and then slipping out of the alliance when things get peaceful is an starfish move.

An alliance, especially a coalition like NATO, is a mega-mutual relationship.
