oh yeah another thing with the map nonnel, the Aral sea is much smaller than it actually is on the map
here's a comparison of what its depicted and what it's actually like

so the former soviet central Asian nations don't have as much water as depicted, a lot less actually
this has affected the fishing industry and public health of the Kazakhs and Uzbeks. the south Aral sea is pretty much doomed, but the north is starting to rise due to dam projects
