uh, just want to point out that the UK/great Britain is sometimes called england when talking casually in the united states

Yes and it's wrong, he's trying to say it's right

not in anywhere ive gone

not in anywhere ive gone
well then here anyways, people usually say Britain or england unless they're specifically talking about Scotland or wales

oh i must have read wrong

coolio, hello new souf amerikun friend :^)

also uh, nuking an asteroid in space is either gonna 1) blow it up into little pieces and forget us or 2) not do anything and waste a nuke

money is no issue for ESTO's space programs

space tug will work just fine, it wont take a lot to push it out of the way
That is why it will be a flyby explosion.

It won't be placed on the surface.
It doesn't have an intention to blow it up. It will only produce a force that will shove it off its course.

A space tug will be a massive project to do.

Option 3.
All we need to do is lift it with, uh, SPACEX TECHNOLOGY.
and make an exception to the test ban treaty wherein:
"allowed if it is to save earth"

you thinking like shockwaves or something?

there are no shockwaves in space tho

there are not enough particles to carry that energy, it will produce heat energy, so you might melt the asteroid

or do you mean like, nuclear propulsion or something

on the other hand we can just drill a BUNCH of nukes into the asteroid and blow that stuff up

with enough we can make small enough chunks that they wont affect us much at all

a cluster of well-planted nukes could shatter it into negligibly sized pieces that will safely burn up in the atmosphere

It's a 150ft asteroid so it's barely the length of the space shuttle

i mean like

nuclear explosions = force

having it far enough from an asteroid so that it won't make it explode but enough to push it would be the key

It's a 150ft asteroid so it's barely the length of the space shuttle
asteroids hardly have any length; they have forgeted up diameters.

it isn't as simple as to inventing something would do tug or push it.

"Who says it's going to hit a city?" cries someone from the back

"Who says it's going to hit a city?" cries someone from the back
"Who says it won't?"

what do you mean force?

it would have to be moved via shockwave

explosions dont work in space because of that

its why sounds travel farther underwater than in air, the particles are denser and can carry that energy further

same idea in space, opposite end of spectrum

"Who says it won't?"

"BY THE WILL OF ALLAH IT WILL STRIKE THE OCEAN AND DO NO DAMAGE ALLAHUACKBAR" cries a mujahideen insurgent before blowing himself up

"Who says it will even hit Earth?"
