"b-b-b-but we're not driving people to Self Delete we're just calling them out for being PROBLEM O-MATIC 3000"
Oh yeah I got an ask about someone who attempted Self Delete. It was catphoba I think, is this the same person these landwhales are calling out for being problematic?

There is a correct and healthy way to discuss body-shaming and misrepresentation in fictional characters.

The exact opposite of that is bullying and demeaning people you've never met just for drawing something the way they wanted to draw it, regardless of their intentions.

People are, shockingly enough, allowed to make mistakes, and even more shockingly, are allowed to draw whatever they want. Maybe they haven't gotten proportions down yet, maybe they're drawing the character in an alternate universe where they got fit, maybe they're just experimenting.

The tumblr call-out culture, mob mentality bullstuff is just that: bullstuff. It's not social justice (real social justice, not tumblr social justice), it's not smart, it's not the right thing to do. If someone's a tribal or a family man, or whatever, you call them a tribal, a family man, or whatever. What you don't do is stalk their social media accounts sending death threats in hopes of driving them off the internet entirely, or worse, to near if not actual Self Delete.

preach

unrelated but tumblr is such a terrible website
i made an account to see what this is about and like, everything breaks if i try to use it

So lemme get this straight, an artist posted their own artwork and got bullied and prodded to the point of nearly killing herself? forget, what a damn shame.

I don't mean to argue over it but misrepresentation of a character doesn't necessarily mean portraying the character in a way that's different from canonical portrayal. A depiction of a thinner character who is usually not that thin shouldn't classify body-shaming because nobody is being shamed for being fat.

Even if it was meant to be offensive in some way, it's a victimless offense.

wait what
is that what happened? i honestly can't believe people are like this

victimless offense.

Those are the keywords, though.

What I was referring to was in terms of art and it's effect on society in general. Like, you can have a discussion with people who make art about why representation matters and all that. And so we're clear, doing whatever the forget this was was not doing that at all.

Just cause some kid on the internet doesn't follow "proper guidelines," doesn't hurt anyone; the only time it can "hurt" anyone is when it's made in a direct insult (like drawing a real, innocent person as a gross caricature of themselves and making a mockery of them just because you can, then that's distasteful and hurtful art).

Some person online drawing whatever is not that big of a deal, and like you said, competently victim-less as we're dealing with characters who are not real.

I think no matter what we should all be able to agree that what happened here was terrible and inexcusable, and anything to the contrary is just detracting from the original point of someone was harassed to the point of almost Self Delete because of drawings of fake people.

you guys

the people who told her to Self Delete dont even speak for all of us
like im pretty sure those were the same stupid gay bronies with the cross dressing character. stop acting like one group of people in a fandom speaks for everyone in the fandom

grade a fandom, fellas. so much better than those bronies, i mean you guys are really spreading the love and tolerance.
edit: wait forget im late
it's worth noting that the vast majority of the people in the fandom seem to be agreeing that the people pushing this content policing nonsense are just bullies

all fandoms please die so I can talk and read about cartoons in peace <3

as long as people like stuff and have a talk box where they can express how much they like it, fandoms will exist, because that's all fandoms are: a big collection of all sorts of people that like a certain thing. this means some of those people are going to be jerks and wowie look where we are now

if short fat trans lesbian demiboy wolf kin spider men didnt exist then there wouldn't be a problem. unfortunately tumblr exists

if tumblr didnt exists than something else surely would
most likely another obscure / semi-popular blogging site would hold all of the radical feminists and loveist women who think they're progressing feminism
there's really nothing you can do about it than avoid it which really sucks because 95% of the tumblr community is calling out other people for being "problematic" or "oppressive"
