Author Topic: Trying to get an old LEGO set to work  (Read 2983 times)

My dad recently got this old 1998 LEGO set.
It's a LEGO Cybermaster 8482

and it's in pretty good condition, but
I'm having trouble getting it to work.
I had to use a USB to serial connector to properly connect it to a laptop, however it can't connect properly.
It connects to the little one fine, and the bigger block is also getting a signal, but the bigger block isn't connecting to the little one (the little one is connected directly to the laptop and sends a signal to the bigger one and the bigger one is supposed to send a signal back)
I fiddled around with the firewall (turning it off) and with the serial to USB drivers, but it's stuck at that stage.
I tried two XP laptops, one couldn't connect at all whilst the other connects but cannot send a signal back.
I'm not sure how to fix this and idk if anyone else knows.
If anyone has any ideas, please tell.

wow this died straight away

Try replacing the faulty USB(s)? There's always a chance a single wire broke and the whole thing got messed up or something.

dude why did you open it??? don't you know about minton-box?

Probably was already used, which is why the cable is borked.

did you try turning it off then back on
It could possibly be  faulty cable like the others said seeing how it's a bit old and used as well. I know you said it was in godd condition, but again it's still a possibility. If it isn't though, I'm not sure what else could be causing the problem really.

the pictures I used arent mine
and the box is a little beaten but it's still in good condition
The connector is a serial connector, and it connects fine:

so I think the cable's fine, but the connection back to the computer may be borked

I have 4 huge bins of legos

I have all my LEGO in draws, all sorted into different draws for different sizes

Buy a cheap kit with missing parts off eBay and scrap that for parts you need
