Author Topic: Should Valve start enforcing TRCs?  (Read 1607 times)

I posted a reddit post concerning TRCs for PC here, but I want to ask a more specific question to the BLF. Firstly;

Quote
they're a list of critical standards that your game must abide by before a console manufacturer will allow your game to be published on their hardware. They can be anything from important checks (making sure the game doesn't stutter at key points, ensuring the player cannot fall out of the level etc) to nitpicky (making sure loading screens have moving graphics, making sure that the button used to confirm a save game is different to any other button). Furthermore, bugs are classified under different "classes", and if a game has any Class A bugs (ones that prevent you from playing the game), you're not allowed to release it.

Obviously, Valve has just been hauling in the money recently, and we all know that Steam Greenlight and Early Access have a majority of bad games. So, I now push the question to you guys...

Should Valve create a list of TRCs that all game developers must follow in order to get their game released on Steam? If so, what are some of the things you think should be mandatory for all games, or specific to genres of games?

after how they raped the gaming community i doupt they give a forget about what happens on their store as long as it gives them money

Valve? Quality control? Get real, it'll never happen

This.
Even before this goofy stuff, Valve has literally never had any real quality control because of their belief in "total freedom on the PC."

I'm not asking "Will it happen?" It's quite clear Valve has no intention of enforcing standards.

I just want to know what people's thoughts are on the idea of having a list of standards that developers should try to match.

In the distance I can hear the screams of at least 2 dozen GOG users yelling 'we told you so'.

They should, but they won't. Valve was gaming's Anakin Skywalker.

Honestly if valve wants to enforce the total freedom on PC thing they can at least ensure the game is complete and functioning.

i dont think thats the right subreddit to post it on

Of course they should. It would be ideal.

whats a trc
A list of checks for video games because console manufacturers (Sony, Microsoft and Nintendo) will allow them to be published.

They tell developers what needs to be in their games, and what things they must avoid. They also detail which bugs are the most critical to fix.
