that damage control outplays even the most experienced blf users

that is quite the burn

The app store.
terrible products doesn't necessarily mean the system failed

it still delivers quality products, rewards people for creating them, and good products naturally rise to the top

of course the app store also has a lot of awful policies (or lack thereof) that make it strange, such as not caring at all about copywritten content

Another good thing he said was "think of money as information"

a true master with words lol

don't think the best strategy to reason with people upset about charging money is to tell them that money makes the world go round

i mean even if it can be true like come on man

The system didn't fail, the system was a huge success. The system wasn't designed to create good content, it was designed to make money, which it does extraordinarily well. The system doesn't need to fail to produce stuff. Let's take a look at the appstore's payed games category. Anything of quality is a preexisting product, Terraria is a good example. The rest is comprised of a stuffload of ex-flash games being sold between 1 and 3 dollars, a ton of 2001 looking sports games, around 12 boardgames, all of this essentially making the appstore a hive of stuffty pc ports and shovelware. Of course, this is only an example of the system, there is no preexisting requirement to play these games, nor do most of them rely on other apps to function properly. (although a few actually do, namely minecraft stuff) The big problem with mods is that there's already a community, everything already worked fine.

fair enough i guess, i don't really know too much about the app store these days aside from that there's a hilarious amount of baby simulators

That's the free section, that area is literally a cesspit.

I think that the general idea of others being able to sell their mods through Steam Workshop was a good idea initially, however I believe that Valve taking 75% of all revenues you make is absurd. It states on Steam that it was released so people within the mod community can make a living, firstly there isn't a big market for mods -- and secondly, who will want to put in all of their time to make a mod and get only 25% of the actual sale? It's ridiculous. Another problem is filtering out the mods that aren't of quality.

This. Its ridiculous for valve to take 75% of someones hard work. This also drives prices up because for people to so much as make a quarter they have to sell it for $1

i have a bad feeling the someone, somewhere legitimately wants gabe's head on a plate

and then we already have people calling steam the next origin and boycotting it, i honestly feel bad for him because i know for a fact he doesn't deserve all the flak he is getting from everyone, and im surprised he hasn't got any death threats or just general threats at all yet, but i can see it happening real soon

I can guarantee he already has

this is why i sometimes genuinely hate communities, its like religion, you have the average people, then you have the loving extremists who want to kill anyone that even says something against them, the entire steam community reacting like this (and some people in this thread and im talking about you to op) is like one giant jihad, being angry over it is fine, but death threats, suddenly losing every loving single speck of respect and everything else is over the loving top, paid mods is a semi good idea without the 75% cut so modders get their worth

as much as i might sound like one of those crazy conspitribals on youtube, i feel like someone is going to end up loving bombing valve hq or doing something in the real world to hurt others over a loving video game, and it pisses me off beyond belief that people would actually do this to someone who actually has some logical things to say (with some exceptions).
