Author Topic: My experience with uploading to the Imgur Gallery summed up in one picture  (Read 2930 times)

the awful compression that is applied to uploads, i don't know how the forget people think that's acceptable for an image hosting service lol
the compression only kicks in if you're uploading large files
in which case you should be compressing it and it's not really that big of an effect

not to mention their garbage "gifv" thing that's just an MP4 and makes working with gifs people send me a moderate nuisance
i agree that it can be a nuisance but it's way faster to load which is nice

the compression only kicks in if you're uploading large files
and it shouldn't

in which case you should be compressing
no

it's not really that big of an effect
it's not quite facebook bad, but is bad enough to be a problem

i agree that it can be a nuisance but it's way faster to load which is nice
...no it's not?

and it shouldn't
no if you're uploading a 1920x1080 png you deserve it
it's not quite facebook bad, but is bad enough to be a problem when is it a problem
...no it's not? it is for me

just because you're ok with stuffty jpegs doesn't mean everyone else is lmao
how do i "deserve" to have the quality of an image lowered because i expect an image hosting service to actually host the image instead of converting it into garbage first
good for you

imgur is good for quick sharing stuff

you're implying that jpegs are really that garbage in the first place
the only time that it really matters is if you're using transparency (which isn't really useful for large images which tend to be screenshots or photos) or a converted vector diagram (which almost never has to be that large)
so i don't really see any situation where this compression is harmful, and they are hosting a lot of images. seems fair that they're going to compress the large ones

edit: i can see how this can be annoying for artists but that's a minority; and i would agree with you if it was all images, but it only compresses images that should be compressed anyway. i don't think (i may be wrong) imgur compresses images with transparency. basically i can see how this would be annoying for certain kinds of people in rare instances but in general if it's compressing something, it's something that ought to be compressed

edit2: ultimately it's just an opinion thing. if jpegs bother you that much, then fine; i don't generally like jpegs either but it makes sense for large images which are almost always screenshots or photographs

yes

the only time that it really matters is if you're using transparency
ergo as often as possible

(which isn't really useful for large images which tend to be screenshots or photos)
no? for you, maybe, but get this, not everybody is you

or a converted vector diagram (which almost never has to be that large)
if this is stupid-talk for "a rendered vector image," the entire point is that i can render it at an arbitrarily large resolution

so i don't really see any situation where this compression is harmful
literally any

and they are hosting a lot of images. seems fair that they're going to compress the large ones
there are smaller less stuffty services with equal or greater traffic that not only don't compress images but are generally far far far less restrictive in terms of uploaded content
maybe they should put less time into their baby-leddit "community" lol

edit: i can see how this can be annoying for artists but that's a minority
so what...?

and i would agree with you if it was all images, but it only compresses images that should be compressed anyway.
no image should be compressed

repeating yourself doesn't make yourself seem any less dumb

are you done yet. i see zero reason to use this website, it might be acceptable at best if it was the only option, but there are many far better services in every way

jesus christ you're being hostile
i never saw it necessarily to call you dumb

if this is stupid-talk for "a rendered vector image," the entire point is that i can render it at an arbitrarily large resolution
yes that's what i meant does it seriously matter
i put logos and stuff all the time but they don't need to be at an arbitrary resolution
why would you ever need a logo more than 1000 pixels on a side

anyway i'm done, since you seem to want to just result to insults

sorry you had a bad day hopefully next one will be better :)

Why does Taboo feel compelled to argue about everything?

Why does Taboo feel compelled to argue about everything?
You seem to forget that this is the Blockland Forums.
Everyone has to be arguing, all the time. Sometimes even with themselves!

Every thread I see him in, he is stirring up stuff.

But he's right

None of the wallpaper dumps on imgur are usable for example as all images look like stuff on close inspection

Being right doesn't excuse stuff behavior.
