Author Topic: Stop the build stealing!  (Read 8107 times)

(im fair new to the forums, even with an old bl id so I'm not sure if this is in the right topic area).

While hosting MY nuclear powerplant powerplanthttp://forum.blockland.us/index.php?topic=278802.0

A guy joined and said he loves this stuff. But after spawning he said he'd seen the build i built on TWO other servers. I've already been accused of stealing a build which was infact to do with the powerplant. Of course me and the person sorted it out (it was mine) but I still got drama'd.

Anyway can people stop stealing my builds. I hate it and it happens a lot but this has had much time and effort in building and eventing. If you are the person can ya own up? Pm of course. I have evidence from the start of me building my powerplant and I can release it. But there's no need if ya just own up!

Saving is here to stay. If you dont like it, then dont host at all

It isn't stealing; saving will always be for everybody. If you don't ill it, don't build, or at least hide credits in your build.

just have something like this:

hidden in the build somewhere

I've had stuff like that before. Believe it or not I've bumped into my own builds on other servers a large number of times. And I don't want the same option to be disabled. I just want people to actually leave credits at least. When I found a server who stole my build, they'd deleted the credits and replaced it with their own name -_-.

Build stealing isn't an issue. It is an issue however if they're taking full credit for it, but then that's just taking credit for something they never made. If they are deleting the credits and replacing it with their name, that falls under that category. Anyways, it isn't stealing if they are just hosting your build. Many people host servers with ACM City or Mansion loaded, are they stealing it?

Unless they claim that they built the build, it's not build-stealing. No one can be handicapped enough to claim that they made ACM City because 1), it's a default build and 2), everyone knows that ACM built ACM City.

Just use a load of bricks noone else has. When you're done building, delete the uinames from the brick datablocks.

...or you can not be a crybaby and stop having issues with people using your builds

I have no problem with people using stuff I built. Mainly because I didn't build anything in forever.

build stealing is perfectly okay so long as the person who steals the build doesn't take all the credit

My statement was more directed towards OP, sorry.

People aren't stealing your build OP, they're using it. Chances are if a build is good, people could think of 20 different ways to recycle it, since the build would normally be hosted one or two times before it is promptly forgotten and the builder moves on.

I've actually been going around collecting saves of builds I really liked just because I don't want them to be lost, and was planning on releasing some of them since they haven't been hosted for awhile or uploaded publicly

you could look at it like this, they thought your build was so good that they're taking credit for it

I've been doing that for forever too, but the main reason I saved them was so I could mess around with them in singleplayer. Chances are I won't release them mainly because I won't be able to find them.

This is one of the issues I have when hosting a server

I don't really steal other builds. Even if people do like them and copy them, no credits means no happy.
