But just in case it doesn't, go to C:\Windows\System32\GWX and run the application.
The program doesn't run, like I double-click and it literally doesn't do anything
I clicked all of them and waited. Should pop up sooner or later assuming you updated.

1) no
2) i dont think so but i checked for update manually and nothing was there
3) windows update still works so i dont think so
4) pretty sure its legit
Well then you more than likely won't see it until the end of the month:

It seems that on all computers, regardless of whether or not they're fully updated or fully compatible will get the app at that time.

For the last time, it won't, for multiple reasons.

First off, Windows 10 holds a lot of features that Windows 7 doesn't, and Windows 8 holds features that Windows 7 doesn't. Are you really going to throw all those current features and every other significant feature that will ever be released just because you feel attached to your current OS?

Second, security updates. After 2020 your computer will no longer get security updates if you run windows 7. After that, your computer is literally a playfield for any hacker that's worth his salt. Any new exploit they find, they can and will abuse on your computer and you will be royally forgeted.

He did say "always." I don't like it when people use strong words like that without truly meaning it. It has a meaning for a reason.

Only the insane will choose to stay with Windows 7. There is, without a doubt, literally no logical reason not to switch.

it's just windows 8 but better
and windows 8 wasn't that bad if you installed classic shell

I would upgrade, but I don't want to lose all the research on my hard-drive.

Among other things, of course.

I really like 8.1. It's very good. I've tried the windows 10 technical preview and didn't like it.

you don't lose data when you upgrade ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Then go ahead, stick with it, just not forever. There will be a time when 8.1 doesn't get security updates and what I said will hold for it as well.

don't get me wrong, I'm still upgrading to 10. Just at least for now I'm not exactly looking forward to it.

Did you even bother with the consumer preview?

Technical Preview was for Enterprise users, before all the consumer features got added.
