I don't like the argument of ideals going on in here. If you think that gender is a biological construct, that's good for you. If you think that gender is a social construct, that's also good for you. The fact of the matter is that your personal ideals shouldn't impair other people's lives, and if you can make someone's life a little bit more comfortable by occasionally choosing a different word, you should do it.
I see it almost the same way with gay marriage. If you think that homoloveual relationships can't function properly, sure whatever. If you think that homoloveual relationships function just as well as straight ones, then that's great. However, you shouldn't try to stop two gay people from getting married because you yourself don't see it as a valid institution.
The debate here shouldn't be between whose worldview is correct or not. It should be about who is intentionally trying to be an starfish for essentially no reason.
