You back away and point a gun at the Ventilator Boss and ask what the hell he's doing. "Just a friendly hug...." He says ominously, seconds before lunging at you with a knife again. You manage to get a single shot off at the Ventilator Boss before he stabs you to death. The wounded Ventilator Boss is finished off by your companions, and they proceed into the Ventilator HQ alone and get promptly massacred. They needed you.
Almost got it.Walk away from the former boss, point [a gun] at him, and ask him to stop moving towards you.

You back up a good distance and aim a gun at the (Former) Ventilator Boss before ordering him to stop! Ignoring your commands, he lunges at you with a knife! You open fire and move to the side, barely avoiding being shanked.
"Damn it!" The Ventilator Boss yells as he reactivates his forcefield and turns the mech back on! "The wiring you destroyed was a decoy! Have fun dying, you bastard!" The Ventilator Boss screams. "Your BFG9000's won't work either!" The BFG9000's your companions were carrying fly out of their hands and into the Ventilator Boss's hands, where he disintegrates them somehow. Your companions are forced to make do with their regular weapons.
