Author Topic: Reddit banned some subreddits & pissed off hundreds of thousands of people  (Read 14900 times)

I feel like the support for /fatpeoplehate/ is at an all time high right now. People don't like mass-censorship, even if it's the censorship of ideas they disagree with. You're right that they might leave reddit if no one supports them, but that's not the case.
true, but this support for the fat people hating group is momentary.

i just don't think they're going to spill into normal reddit boards to such a noticeable degree.

Here's a link to some of the censorship that goes on in /r/games. You'd have to give me a little while to find the thread that started it off, but they've nuked a few threads over the past few months. As for the ads, I feel that one is kinda self explanatory. For lack of a better word, there will always be shills.
>a 4 month old thread with no conclusive evidence
Still waiting for you to post something that's concrete. Anecdotal evidence is pure crap.

EDIT: What the forget does any of this stuff have to do with r/fph anyways? I know I bit the bait to get off topic but stop posting irrelevant stuff.

>ads
Uh, there's nothing inherently wrong with ads, Kickstarters with 24 hours left can be posted, and there are always ads at the top of page due to reddit ads. What's wrong with them again?

please, enlighten me as to this "overt censorship" and "blatant advertising." it wouldn't be that hard because it's already proven, right?
Here are a few other censor ship threads I've found pertaining to /r/games:
www.reddit.com/r/SubredditDrama/comments/1r422v/twitch_drama_overflows_twitch_admins_requests/

https://pay.reddit.com/r/gaming/comments/1r4r5c/twitchtv_speedrunners_banned_by_admin_abusing/cdjkm9q

https://www.reddit.com/r/OutOfTheLoop/comments/2dzjdh/why_is_this_rgames_thread_about_totalbuscuit_a/

http://blogjob.com/oneangrygamer/2015/03/gamergate-reddit-mod-on-nuked-thread-all-comments-were-in-violation-of-the-rules/

And for the record, I'm not speaking about sidebar ads, but submissions and comments made in an effort to secretly promote certain products.

I'd like to think all internet freedoms are connected. You can't step on a tail and not expect the head to bite you.

You do realize there was a posted rule prohibiting GamerGate discussion in the sub right? It's obvious that the mods would hide or ban any thread that did not pay heed to the rule, right?

...and I'm failing to see how this is relevant to the discussion at all. really.

i think it's clear to see shady stuff goes on in r/gaming from the evidence kaz posted.

Sounds like censorship to me.

More of a stopping of the flame war before it begins

I'd rather have never ending flame wars, than any form of discussion being censored.

We already talked about this. This is about breaking harassment rules, not freedom. Apples and oranges.

It was an extension of the pre-existing "no gaming scandals" rule. It was simply expanded to name GamerGate specifically. r/games is about the production, promotion distribution, and discussion of the games themselves (ideally). There are other subs to discuss gaming scandals that are NOT r/games.

Understand that r/fph was banned because it broke harassment rules. I don't know how many times I have to repeat this.

censorship sucks

but i did accidentally see a picture of a decapitated guy with his face burned off, and his severed hand holding his castrated snake last week

so maybe sometimes it's ok

So what about the other subreddits allegedly banned for 'harassment'?

Censoring a topic is 100% unequivocally an infringement on freedom of speech. It's why FoS exists. There wasn't a rule like that when this went down. It was put up as a deterrent and counter measure to the backlash. Furthermore, the twitch thing had little to do with GG, and Totalbiscut has repeatedly stated that he's neutral to the entire thing.

Edit: Look you're obviously here with an agenda and are firmly set in your own beliefs. I have no interest in getting into a large debate on my first day here. Have a good one, and try to keep a more open eye on what's going on around you.

why is stuffredditsays allowed if fph isn't

wtf
