Author Topic: Reddit banned some subreddits & pissed off hundreds of thousands of people  (Read 14897 times)

why is stuffredditsays allowed if fph isn't

wtf
The mod post said it wasn't about harassment. Hah.

So what about the other subreddits allegedly banned for 'harassment'?
r/fatpersonhate, r/fph2, etc. etc. all had the same sidebar with pictures of imgur's staff and the same calls to harass imgur staff, with the subsequent edition of harassment of the Reddit CEO.

Censoring a topic is 100% unequivocally an infringement on freedom of speech. It's why FoS exists. There wasn't a rule like that when this went down. It was put up as a deterrent and counter measure to the backlash. Furthermore, the twitch thing had little to do with GG, and Totalbiscut has repeatedly stated that he's neutral to the entire thing.
1) Reddit is a private company with a set of rules and regulations that you agree to when you sign up to post on the site. You have no freedom of speech on that website to the contrary of whatever egotistical opinions you have. You have the freedom to go to other websites and say what you want, but you don't have the freedom to spew stuff on a private website when they determine the rules. Is it your right to go into a restaurant and take a meaty stuff on the cashier's counter?

2) Being "neutral" does not mean being "uninvolved," and last time I heard, the twitch thing is still a "scandal."

What's this? Are these reddit admins saying they removed these subreddits for being harassing? Oh my god!

What about /neocigarette, /stuffmondayssay, and /transcigarettes?

The commonality I see here is that they all have offensive content, but where's the harassment they were banned for?

I've only seen evidence that /fatpeoplehate/ organized harassment.

Unfortunately I don't have screens now and it's impossible to get them since the subreddits were banned and aren't on the Wayback Machine. Sorry. When the dust settles I'm sure somebody will have screens.

I doubt it that all of those banned subreddits were simultaneously organizing campaigns to harass and intimidate imgur and reddit staff.

What most likely happened was that certain users from those subreddits decided to harass and intimidate reddit staff, but that's not a good reason to ban the entire subreddit on reason of 'harassment'.

They're probably saved on archive.com

They shouldn't have deleted it. At least there the cancer was contained.

That's basically what I believe. There's absolutely no argument that everything in those subreddits was terrible, but it served a valid purpose keeping it away from everyone else.

It was flooding over into other sub-reddits, though obviously they made it worse by banning the entire sub.

I never knew reddit's community was this handicapped

Also yes there are stufftier subreddits than FPH (Coontown, beatingwomen, etc) but FPH was brigading and personally attacking Imgur admins which is what I think warranted the ban. Now reddit is going apestuff about "muh free speech". Admittedly, though, the reddit admins are being kind of frenzied when it comes to controlling the situation (they banned /r/whalewatching, an actual whalewatching subreddit, without looking to see if it had to do with fat people or not. it was unbanned at least)

they have no idea what they're doing if they didnt even loving look at the posts in it before banning it like jfc
