Author Topic: Computer won't start, please help.  (Read 2040 times)

For the past few days, my computer will not start up. It will turn on, but it will not run. I have left the "starting windows" screen on the monitor for hours on end to no positive result. I ran diagnostics on it, and I got a message saying "BIOS3-D NO BOOTABLE DRIVE DETECTED." I have a Hewlett Packard desktop that's about 5 years old. Has anyone else had this problem? How do I fix it?

it's not detecting the os.

Look up how to get into your bios and drives. Switch the drive's order around and see if you can get the system to boot.

How old is your HDD? Might just have died of old age.

That exact thing happened to my old HDD. I have a bad feeling your computers hard drive is dead.

when booting try pressing f2 repeatedly, it should bring you into the BIOS. if your hard drive is dead, it won't show up in connected storage/boot devices

EDIT: also try opening the computer up and checking the SATA power + data connections, it may have been loose and finally fell off

Well, like I said, it's about 4-5 years I think.

If it is dead, is there a way to get the files restored? I have REALLY old BL saves from over half a decade ago with lots of nostalgia attached.

And some neat add-ons.

if the hdd is dead that basically means all of the data is lost. sorry

if his hdd is dead, how is it getting to the starting windows screen?

Your hard drive isn't detected, so it either became unplugged or died.

If you've never gotten a new HDD that's actually pretty old, you can get it recovered but I have no idea what it'd cost.
