I think it depends on the severity of the action they took to be incarcerated and the will of the family to do it. If I came home to find my family murdered, and the culprit in chains somewhere, you had best believe there would be blood. It would take a while. I would not enjoy it. They would get their due.
There's a quote that I love. It goes something like : "And when I leave you will finally understand why storms are named after people." The context isn't quite correct, but I feel it's applicable here.
