Author Topic: Most efficient way of transferring files?  (Read 1082 times)

I need to take all of my steam games and transfer them from one account on my computer to another. I also need to move them from my laptop to another computer. What would be the easiest and quickest way to do this?

Steam games reside inside the steamapps folder in the Steam directory of Program Files, a generally shared location on a Windows PC.

If you install the games on a computer, any user on the computer has access so long as they log in to an account that owns the respective games.

As far as another PC is concerned, some steam games have a backup feature available in the Library GUI of the Steam application that will make transferring easier. It doesn't work for everything though, and sometimes just copying the proper steamapps folders/contents to the same place on the new PC will do the trick.

As far as transfer medium... USB or Local Network are your best bets.

I just keep my steam installation on a portable harddrive

magnetsthis is just a joke don't actually do this

large portable harddrive

recreate the file from scratch
put it on multiple 3 1/2 inch floppies
send them to space
make sure the spacecraft carrying them lands where youre sending the file

Either Ethernet or an external HDD.
Idk which would be faster cuz i never really cared to memorize the read/write speed of HDDs

Plug the secondary drive into your computer with the games on it. It's the fastest way.

Deleting the files and starting over again.
