Author Topic: certain people in VerticalHorizon's drama topic (AFRAIDANNA, NAL, TABOO, BDARTY)  (Read 10761 times)

real quick, a little unrelated but:
I believe in the individual's right to an autonomous mind.  Everyone has the right to agree, disagree, or to assert their own as part of their rights as a human, including transloveuals.

However, suppose you are a man or a woman with a fully functional body in every way, and then suppose that one day, you want to be the other love for whatever reason.  In order to do so, you then have to subject your body to hormone levels that are unsuited to your genetic make-up, and could even be unsafe.  You might even go as far as surgically removing parts, and transplanting new ones in.  Your body may or may not accept them, or your skeletal system may not be built for it.

What worries me the most is the mindset that one can do anything to their body, and if further entitled, to others' bodies, without consequence —and I am not referring to just transloveualism.  If today's definition of "keeping an open mind" means embracing any and all change and driving headlong into tomorrow with reckless abandon, then it lacks sensibility. I accept change, because embracing some level of change is healthy for creating a better social atmosphere.  However, I believe that issues of consequence that have strong bearings on the future should be taken carefully

fluff like:
These are my concerns, in complete honesty.
is the downfall of most written arguments. be more concise.

So are you saying you reserve the right to self-irreverence?  It doesn't make sense why anyone would hold that over themselves.
first of all: yes
second: that's irrelevant, not liking your body doesn't mean you don't respect yourself

Yes, thank you.

Sadomasochism on its own is not enough to call someone "mentally ill" or "messed up in the head," considering the fact that most of the time a masochist doesn't want to inflict pain on someone who doesn't want it and most of the time a masochist doesn't want it unless they consent to it. Sadomasochism =/= lack of morals and it also doesn't necessarily interfere with a persons ability to function properly.
That's true.  I have some messed up friends who developed masochistic attitudes and impulses, and I haven't noticed any irregular function outside of this realm.

1.  I suppose I can't refute that.
2.  Physical image often has a significant impact on who people think they are.  Hence why this thread is here.

Everyone deserves the outmost respect, even if you don't respect what they've done with themselves or something- even though it's their body and not yours and it doesn't affect you. Simply preposterous how certain people act, can't please 'em all though. VH is a seemingly nice person- just different from most of you. Doesn't give you the right to disrespect her though, what'd she do to you?

what's with the number of people who burst into threads to "give their two cents" without reading anything beyond the first few lines of an OP

I read the OP, didn't seem fit to bump the drama just to toss my two cents, so I put it here.

if I had paypal I would only then be able to give my two cents to all of you, which I'm pretty sure would total up to 24¢

NOEDIT: 56¢*

Ironically, I don't think I've even read this thread's OP. It wasn't intentional; I got maybe a few words in before by brain cut me off asking "who is this starfish and why does he think his opinion is so super duper special that it deserved its own thread" before going to skim the rest of the page for answers.

Fair enough, me neither because this OP was easily identifiable as stupid.

???????? Where exactly is the hypocrisy?
The fact that you're blaming someone for feeling like a victim when you've done literally the exact same thing in the past.

Where the hell is he trying to be a victim there?
