Author Topic: blf, I'm having trouble deciding which high school to go to  (Read 2586 times)

rich school sounds hella boring. go with the 2nd one.

you'll learn how much high school doesn't actually matter as much as everyone makes it seem pretty quick right after high school, don't throw away the social opportunity.

ayyyyyy

seriously though, thanks

I'm not looking to go to any Ivy League colleges like MIT or Stanford, but just a decent college.
just so ya know, neither MIT nor stanford is an ivy league haha
the ivy leagues are 8 schools all on the east coast, they were established as a group in like the 1800s and the list will never change

OT: i agree with these people, go to the normal high school. on your comment about college, trust me, you can go to a stuffty high school and get in somewhere awesome. i went to a school that could barely pay for my science labs where my ap psych teacher came in drunk to class occasionally and got fired for loveual harassment and i got into stanford - it's just all about what YOU put into it.

Wow, that really boosts my confidence.

Thanks, man.

Oh, and sorry about the ivy leauge comment. Being an 8th grader, I bet you can tell I'm not that smart, lel

I'd say school two

As someone who'll be applying to Stanford, what kind of stuff did you offer? My guess is you had a really nice computer science CV huh?

i self-studied for the APCS test, but that's about it in terms of computer science
really they just want well-rounded people - in other words, not just good students but good THINKERS if you get what i'm saying
like i'm studying AI which means i'm doing CS + linguistics + philosophy and stuff, they're all over interdisciplinary stuff like that
some of the essays you have to write are pretty informal which is rad

Go with your friends.

man i'd love to go to a real nice college but they're so expensive holy stuff. vanderbilt keeps sending me stuff and they've got all the disciplines i want but they're over 63k a year and engineering majors pay extra

My only experience with high school is that it ruined my life.

Well...it was one of the many things that ruined my life.

wait, you have to pay more to have a major in engineering

ugh.

yeah they charge you like $2000 extra for access to their labs and then over $1000 or so for a laptop from them

I wouldn't be too eager to give up a small school population.
It means fewer students to each teacher so you get more focussed lessons and classes that are closer to a one-to-one education.
Also you can still socialise with old friends after school and make new ones with different views and opinions.
And as harsh as it sounds, sometimes friends get in the way andc an be a real distraction to your education. I had a lot of fun with my close friends in high school, but sometimes that meant not working or concentrating, and my grades did suffer.

Ultimately it doesn't overly matter. As long as you work hard and achieve at both you'll get where you want to.

ye stanford is about the same price, no extra cost for engineering tho (that's really weird, never heard of a school doing that)

likewise, I went to their middle school for one year, and the smaller classes made almost no difference.

If you get decent grades like me, teachers don't pay attention to you, regardless. :\

why do you need a $1000 laptop for engineering

I work on a $300 laptop for taking notes and messing with arduinos. .-.

$2000 for labs sounds like total bs.
