What seems to be common in this argument is that people fail to see that there are many other things a person can try, such as change in lifestyle, meds, therapy or even intense rehab before they need to go to the extent of having to kill themselves to relieve the pain. In this case a person would rarely ever be left with it as an only option.
From what I hear, suicidal thoughts come and go very quickly. You feel suicidal one day then the next you feel a bit better and don't consider it any more. If someone commits Self Delete they won't be around to know if they regret the decision and would miss out on all the opportunities life provides. Like I said above it very rarely has to be considered an option.
Taking one's life is not a form of therapy, it would be better described as an anti-therapy. It doesn't fix a problem, it stops you from feeling it, along with life as a whole.
Yes, doing those things will help you recover. But when you're depressed you don't want to get out of bed in the morning. That upbeat music you enjoyed, those videogames that put a stupid smile on your face don't even affect you anymore. Nothing makes you happy. You don't want to do anything. You just sit around feeling terrible all the time. Depression sucks and you end up not being able to do anything productive that can
solve your depression. If it was as easy as "go outside, diet, do fun things to cheer yourself up!!!" then this wouldn't be a problem, would it? When you're seriously depressed you end up with suicidal thoughts all the time. You want attention, you want friends, you want to be happy. But depression holds you back from everything you've been wanting to do. Most of the time you can't just change your lifestyle or get on meds, or even see a therapist. You don't even want to go outside anymore.
