I have been following the stories and comments surrounding Cone, and frankly, I'm appalled. Does Cone believe, deep in the adytum of his own mind, that bad things “just happen” (i.e., they're not caused by Cone himself)? Let me start by stressing that I am not attempting to suppress anyone's opinions, nor do I intend to demean Cone personally for his beliefs or worldviews. But I do assert that I must reveal the constant tension between centripetal and centrifugal forces of dialogized heteroglossia resulting from Cone's expedients. I have a tendency to report the more sensational things that he is up to, the more shocking things, things like how he wants to introduce disease, ignorance, squalor, idleness, and want into affluent neighborhoods. And I realize the difficulty that the average person has in coming to grips with that, but if we briefly prescind from the main point of this letter we can focus on how if we are to take steps toward creating an inclusive society free of attitudinal barriers, then we must be guided by a healthy and progressive ideology, not by the wayward and rude ideologies that Cone promotes. Okay, I've written enough for one letter, so let me just finish by saying that the intent of this letter is certainly not hatred but a probing look into an obviously significant issue.
