i went through all of these links and got lost almost immediately because the information wasn't clearly presented to me
each bit of information is stuck in another sea of links and most of them don't even explain or define what it is you're supposed to be looking for in each category
*googles 'how to navigate usa.gov'*
if you seriously can't do that, then ask someone for help. libraries exist, adult education centers exist. if you don't seek out education or help for yourself it's your own fault.

Ok, so. Alternative.
Besides the point, can you look from another person's perspective, that does not learn about taxes, laws, ect, and agree that the school curriculum needs to change?

The reason education discusses those "irrelevant" subject matter is because they're trying to expand our world-view. Writers, scientists, mathematicians, actors etc all need to appreciate a huge range of things to pull inspiration and take notes from, and unless somebody walks you through it you won't know to look, or how to look.

The most important things to normal civilised life, like taxes and law, are made easy to find and study so that anybody in society can do it. As people have already said, a 30 second Google search is all you need. Schools are about advancing specialist skills so people can enter the workforce with a leg up.

What pisses me off is the lack of choice, the poor teaching techniques and the Australian Government's reluctance to standardise or even just introduce basic computer skills/programming classes, which are related to some of the biggest job fields in today's market.

i've already gone over this.

i think one way you shouldn't get your point across is saying all the stuff we learn is useless like girly hatred guy does

computer skills are taught in schools, nowadays. on the internet you can learn all you want about taxes, laws and even the illusive ect everyone seems to mention in their lists. for example, ect is actually short for et cetera with the proper abbreviation being etc. I learned that on the internet with skills i learned at school. Crazy, huh?

"It doesn't address the point at all why are we learning this set of things? Why do you think we should google these certain things. Why shoulden't we google the quadratic equation. Why are oxbow lakes specifically more of a priority than knowing how to stop someone bleeding to death. We wont all think of every useful bit of information independently of one another.
If we all relied on Google, we'd miss things, we'd make mistakes which could easily be rectified by a teacher."

I'm not saying that at all...
I'm saying that kids shouldn't have to learn things they will never use, and replace the removed things with things that they will need to know.
EX: If I want to be like, a historian or something, I would want to learn about history and stuff, so I would keep that on as my standards, mabey add a language so I can communicate to tourists n stuff, and then add tax / law classes. its not that school is useless, its that schools are
1. teaching outdated material
2. teaching things that kids will never use
3. not teaching things that kids will use

EDIT: I gtg now

yeah there wont be anything when you break the link like that
i googled it myself and it didn't say anything expressly about taxes, but that's because we didn't google for that specifically. Wanna see the literal first result when you narrow it down, though?

there's nothing
Possibly because Navigation of a website is a skill so basic it doesn't need to be taught, similar to breathing, eating, stuffting and using your forgetin' eyes?

"It doesn't address the point at all why are we learning this set of things?
OPEN YOUR loving EYES AND READ WHAT I SAID.

It's about increasing skills, knowledge and interest in specialist areas that can't just be searched on google you absolute mongoloid. Educational Providers work to help walk non-mature individuals through areas in the hopes those people will go off and do something unique.

Why do you think we should google these certain things.
BECAUSE IT'S BASIC loving COMMON KNOWLEDGE.

Why shoulden't we google the quadratic equation.
BECAUSE THE QUADRATIC EQUATION REQUIRES SEVERAL PREREQUISITE MATHEMATICAL CONCEPTS, AND STUDENTS GENERALLY REQUIRE A MENTOR TO TRAIN THEM IN PROPER USAGE.

Why are oxbow lakes specifically more of a priority than knowing how to stop someone bleeding to death.
BECAUSE FIRST AID TRAINING CANNOT BE DONE PROPERLY WITHOUT EXPENSIVE EQUIPMENT AND HIGHLY TRAINED PROFESSIONALS WHO HOLD SPECIFIC LICENSES TO VERIFY THAT THEY CAN CORRECTLY TEACH THE PROCEDURES.

If we all relied on Google, we'd miss things, we'd make mistakes which could easily be rectified by a teacher."
Go forget yourself.

there's a massive 'search' bar smack dab on every page there too. and when you search it, you have the choice to stay on usa.gov, or even go to other sites that have the information you need (which are also government websites)

If we all relied on Google, we'd miss things, we'd make mistakes which could easily be rectified by a teacher."
you're using government websites that are rather easy to understand and navigate through. still don't know it? missing a 'huge, vital part of information' from your knowledge? visit the nearest educational/governmental building to get help, talk to a friend about it even.

a kid/teenager's choice of their future lifestyle can change drastically in any matter of time. what the hell falls under 'outdated material' in education? are you trying to say we shouldn't be learning about the classical/earlier eras or before? i don't know anything that can fall under 'outdated' unless you're talking about how sometimes you solve a math problem differently than older folks have.

'teaching things that kids will never use'. you don't know at all how any kid's/teen's future is going to turn out.

'not teaching things that kids will use' well, didn't you just say we should stop teaching 'outdated' things and 'things kids/teens will never use?'

also, if you're going to only take a select few classes/lessons to get an education and focus on in the high school area, you're going to have a huge, or even massive gap in your education that you'll be missing out on.

yeah i'm done here because the gene that accounts for thick skulls has apparently been inside of most of the forumers
but all i've got to say is this, that website doesn't say jack stuff about navigating usa.gov
