for some reason, my brain only deems things worthy of remembering as the things that are fun/things i actually, actively want to know*
i've got no other explanation for it, sorry
I have this exact same mindset

congrats, literally everyone does

Yeah, this isn't even a problem. The human brain is just programmed to remember things that interest it, but that doesn't mean that you're incapable of finding something interesting in classes that aren't your favorites. I did that in 9th grade for English and History and all my problems miraculously stopped.

Because it is? With modern technology you can even cut out the 'multiply by 30' part. We truly live in a new age.
Oh yeah NVM, I forgot that everything comes incredibly easy to you because you're a genious. I'm just the dummy. I forgot that.

Well let me go crawl back into my unevolved, bigoted, homophobic backwards hole of bible-thumping while you show others how teaching people trig will save others from heart attacks and prevent unintended financial debt.

like, you can't multiply? and subtract? even add?? can you actually for real not do those things?

I don't think you need to be a star student to figure out how to apply addition and subtraction to the real world. There's much harder problems on the SAT, and the average math score is like 500 something. That tells me that most people don't have this problem.

Trig is taught way after addition and subtraction. People should already know how to prevent unintended financial debt by the time that their curriculum has them taking trig. To spend years more on applying the same basic skills to the same basic problems would just be a waste of time. Instead, we teach students what they need to know in order to construct skyscrapers, navigate boats, and discover new planets.

lmao what
math skills are directly connected to ones ability to not get into debt. don't be ridiculous.

you know, you might be living proof the public education system is broken. I'm switching sides on this debate

eh but that ability doesn't always cover your ass
see: identity theft/debit/credit card theft
(disclaimer: i'm not trying to prove you wrong or anything, just stating something to add. the most you should take of this reply is a simple 'k.')

solution: spend a year teaching students credit card theft mitigation

replace the trigonometry part of the SAT with a physical trial where you stop the test proctor from stealing your wallet.

i was actually meaning to refer back to something personally where my mom's card was stolen by some forget in oregon through the internet because she's old and malware happens and they tried to steal next to $5000 off of the card

I don't know how you actually plan to solve that through education. People develop common sense online by using the internet often, and I feel like the problem will just fix itself as more kids grow up with internet.

hold on
wh- is that kimberly kubus rapping

mfw some kid online thinks im kimberly kubus

mfw when I have to to taxes

I think he's right , the US's educational system is a total cluster forget and inefficient, while we learn one language in elementary in other countries the would be learning their third language already.

If the US's Educational system worked we wouldn't have all these "bad student" schools, where nothing but endless fights happen and you learn jack stuff because the teacher decides to put movies on to make the day "easier" to teach.

I don't know about you guys, but my childhood and mainly school was an absolute living hell, nothing but fights, and when the guy says about knowing how to do taxes or running stocks, paying a mortgage, he is right, I had to learn those things myself because I was taught about stuff I never needed to know like how to find the slope in a fraction.

I think the worst part is the books used to teach are extremely outdated, I still remember that in the books there would always be a section for "connecting to the internet with AOL" or "How to properly use a floppy disk".
