This is why it should remain encrypted and only allow the government to see it which is likely what they do.
What financially is there to be gained? I don't understand that argument at all.
This is something i have to bring up: Remember the iphone NSA thing? That's essentially the same thing Microsoft is doing, why aren't we attacking Apple for not keeping our privacy?

There's lots to financially gain because not only do they say they will access and store it, but they also say they can disclose it, which can include selling. Data mining companies could pay microsoft a big fee and get tons of personal information about people. But that's an argument for a different day.
Apple actually did something really nice: They allowed you to fully encrypt your device without sending the key back to apple. Even the police and government can't crack it if you use a strong password. That's the main reason why people aren't going after them.
Normally I hate Apple. This time they're actually doing something right, go figure.
