Since last year, me and my friends have been saving up money for a budget, the deal was a fourth of all of our income would go to it (however, its only 4 people). Since around July of last year, we have made nearly 1500. I believe this is way more than enough for this project, however we have decided to use Cedar for the majority of it. I do not know how much cedar will cost for a 12 foot hull and 13 foot mast. I also have no idea on the cost of a sail.
About 2 months ago, I started planning it out. I would prefer a single-sail Gaff rig, a Barn door rudder, and try to keep power tools out of construction. I want to experience minor shipbuilding like it was back in the late 18th and early 19th centuries. Problem is, I barely have any experience with sailing boats, last time I rode one I was 10. I do however have experience with boats, especially ocean-going skiffs. I also have no experience whatsoever with boat-building. I doubt I can find any help here regarding this, but any tips for construction would be greatly appreciated.
The info in a list:
The budget is $1500
Majoricaly Cedar (if the budget allows it)
12' long hull
13' tall mast
ability to fit 2 people
gaff-rig
no motorization whatsoever
