if you find the right mario maker levels then yeah

It is if you try and do it on your first playthrough with restrictions. No shield, no armor and you are already set. There are many more things to make your journey even more fun. No rings, melee only, no healing, etc.
That logic can essentially be applied to any game. That doesn't make the game itself difficult.

Masochistic would be any rouge-like game
Super Meat boy on the dark worlds are stupid hard, with the final levels being ridiculous even on normal mode.
I don't count Darkest Dungeon or FTL due to how MUCH RNG they have. They both have fake difficulty.

I just got done playing some arma 3 myself, a group of three dudes had me trapped in a construction site. I shot one while he was running in, another coming up the stairs, and the last one got me from the side from a hill. it was goddamn brutal, nothing gets your adrenaline pumping quite like hearing footsteps below you as they clear the rooms.
