u.s. companies are already transitioning to the international system of units to address inefficiencies in exporting their products to other countries. the u.s. customary system will remain for servicing older products. a special congressional committee is started to weigh the advantages and disadvantages of switching to the metric system in response to the petition, though the government is already negotiating with companies to voluntarily switch to SI units.
