Wait what are you doing here? Do you have something to contribute?

Red Spy's forte is stuffposting, ignore him

I would like to clarify and say that I don't have a problem with religion, unless it's causing problems. For instance, the Catholic Church in South Africa discourages the use of condoms, which increases the spread of the AIDS virus. Another example would be faith healers conning people out of their money. stuff like that makes me really mad.

some of you guys are all right, don't go to Egypt tomorrow.

-"The LGBT movement is not for marriage equality because they do not accept child enthusiasts marrying young teenage/pre-teenage kids. They have left those people out so far."

I personally am a Christian, and I am against LGBT, I love the person, but not their lifestyle. But this argument that he has made is not a very stable one at all. I believe that we were made man and wife, and that homoloveuality is a sin. You are not born gay, it's just the sin in you're heart, just like how many young men struggle with lust, or women with insecurity, you are born with it because the sin was passed down from you're father. But again, not to offend anyone, I love everyone equally, because at the foot of the cross we are all equal. I just think homoloveuality is a bad lifestyle.

What most atheists don't get is that Christians don't think that Christianity is a religion. It's not a set of rules we have to follow, it's grace that is from our Creator that we choose to accept. Sins are immoral things that you shouldn't do, not because someone just said so, but because you actually benefit others and yourself by not sinning. If you live a sinful lifestyle you're not going to hell, (if you have been "born again"). But being born again you will be motivated to turn away from you're sins, with a feeling of guilt. I am sad for those "Christians" who is forcefully pushing their doctrines down others throat. You cannot change some-ones heart, you can plant seeds by mentioning you're faith to those who want to hear and God will change their heart. But even if you're born again, you will continue to sin everyday, because it is in our nature, but thankfully we have a gracious God.

This is what I believe.

-snip-

Good post, we should all be willing to accept that we may be wrong. I'm a Christian but understand it's possible God doesn't exist. Of course, I think it far more likely that God does exist, mainly because of the perfectly complex nature of our world. Even something as simple as my hand amazes me, and I can't logically attribute its creation to long term evolution due to random chance. A lot of things outspoken "Christians" say I usually disagree with, but I feel like it's the outspoken ones that usually have the most radical and illogical viewpoints.

I might as well combat Planr's brother's arguments with my own.
-"Evolution is not supported by the fossil record."
This seems baseless, I've studied evolution and the fossil record does often indicate evolutionary trends. At the same time, the fossil record does not give us a guarantee that the earth is truly millions of years old.
-"The intelligent design movement is based entirely on scientific evidence."
Of course, because intelligent design is a scientific theory. You can't use non scientific evidence to support a scientific theory.
-"The LGBT movement is not for marriage equality because they do not accept child enthusiasts marrying young teenage/pre-teenage kids. They have left those people out so far."
I'm not sure why you picked child enthusiasts out of the lot. The same thing can be said for polygamy, incest, or bestiality.
-"The Crusades are not comparable to Islamic Terrorism because the Crusades are incompatible with Christian doctrine and teaching, while Islamic Terrorism is consistent with Islamic teaching and the example of the prophet Muhammad."
Yup
-"The existence of evil is actually proof of God’s existence. Because evil exists, that means there is a transcendant standard upon which we can judge that something is good or evil. Otherwise, evil is relative and is just an opinion."
No, if God didn't exist then evil could still exist, it would just be based on the current societal concept of morality. This could of course shift drastically over time, rendering things that were once unspeakably evil into acts of goodness.

What most atheists don't get is that Christians don't think that Christianity is a religion. It's not a set of rules we have to follow, it's grace that is from our Creator that we choose to accept.

On the money, except it definitely is a religion. A religion is defined as a "set of beliefs".

I don't know a lot about christianity as I have never studied it in-depth, but does God punish sinners or are they just sent to Hell automatically

If God does punish sinners, how is God considered forgiving of all? IMO a truly benevolent being would forgive everybody, even the worst of sinners.

Think Ghandi. He's well known for being a complete pacifist, and never expressing any hate or wishing to do harm to others. Punishment is considered harmful and an is not considered forgiveness. Does that mean there are humans more benevolent than God?

I'm not trying to go against the Bible, i'm just pointing out that there's a minor discrepancy.

nvm
