Author Topic: Why I love NASCAR  (Read 3390 times)

everybody should be hyped for scca and local autocross like they are for nascar though because its something that anyone with a slightly sporty 5 speed car and a dream can attain, all you need to do for autocross is sign up and then pass tech inspection which for my local organization is pretty lenient, I haven't raced autocross yet but I have raced time trials on a frozen lake with a 1996 oldsmobile cutlass coupe (which was a loving blast) I beat a 1986 Porsche 912 (btw he had rwd disadvantage) but I can still say I beat a porsche

It's just not as intense and doesn't really require as much skill to get into. You aren't fighting to be one of 43 drivers.

as cool as auto cross is, it isn't necessarily accessible to most people.  Almost no TV coverage and most people don't have access to local organizations.  So it is understandable why auto cross is not as hyped as nascar.

You're argument is ignorant. Racing tight turns requires judgement, you need to predict a breaking point. Along with that, you don't need 44 drivers to be entertained. 20, even 10 cars on a tight track, that would be just as entertaining. Look up the track named Nurburgring, imagine running on something like that.

you're totally right, 43 cars on the nurburgring would be a traffic jam, its my dream to go there some day

Yes but they don't get anywhere without muscle. In NASCAR everyone has an even playing field because no matter how tall or fat you are you can still win.
Well, for one you have to be a certain size to even get into the car. You know those doors don't open right? Second: You have to have quick enough reflexes in the event of a car cutting you off or spinning out infront of you. Third: Muscle fatigue. Believe it or not you can get muscle fatigue from turning a car left a bunch of times. (about 2000 if were talking about the 500 lap races)

I do enjoy a bit of NASCAR, but I still think F1 is slightly more impressive.

Well, it would be if FIA didn't keep loving up the rules.

I've got a bit of a soft spot for F1 from my dad too, the cars are loving insane though.

Now look up Martinsville speedway or just watch the video if you don't think NASCAR has tight turns.

Thats the monte carlo circuit

I thought NASCAR was just an excuse for rednecks to get drunk in public and watch cars go fast.

But for real, you have to actually be there for it to be fun, otherwise you're watching a 200 lap Luigi's Circuit marathon with no context of how fast they really are going. At least not until they crash.

well, if you're like 200lbs as opposed to 140 for example, that's a whole 60 pounds and definitely puts you at a disadvantage
