You don't understand the economy do you? Minimum wage is supposed to be the minimum you can live off of. Prices haven't been going up because we are not putting an excessive amount of money into circulation. If we up the wages then prices will follow. Another side affect is that people won't want to do jobs we actually need like law enforcement because they can get payed more for doing practically nothing.
I don't think you understand that most people flat out cant live off of minimum wage because of how low it is.
Minimum wage needs to revolve around what area you are in. if you are in a city with a high living costs, minimum wage needs to be higher. On the other hand, if you live in a cheap area where it doesn't cost all that much to live, then minimum wage shouldn't be as high there as more expensive places.
Right now, for example of where I live, I make $9.50 an hour. If i lived on my own, i could barely make ends meat, and that's if i'm in a tiny studio cabin/apartment that isnt even up for rent right now due to them all being occupied. Imagine if I was making $1.50 less? It doesn't seem that much, but it stacks fast, and it makes it near impossible for someone to have a car and a place to stay. It should be relative to where you are, which most likely wont happen because big businesses like fast food chains or retail chains wont alter the wage based on location that easily.
okay then dont raise the wage and allow everything to keep going up and then not be able to pay for anything
just because you raise the minimum wage does not mean bread goes from costing 3 dollars to 6 dollars instantly
Also this. It seems most people think inflation happens instantly and that your local Walmart will hike in prices as soon as the wages change. It just doesn't work that or or that fast. You know how much of a profit margin a place like walmart makes? They aim for %100+. If they make less than double than what they paid for, they take away ALL bonuses. Retail and fast food chains are greedy. They can afford wages going up, but they don't want to.
Also, Prices of food has been going up but wages havnt. A 5 dozen pack of eggs used to be $10 not too long ago, but now its pushing on $15. Cheese has been getting pricier over the years. Chicken and hamburger used to be the cheap meats but now even those are getting pricey.
