Author Topic: Steam Escrow - new steam trading feature that could kill bot trading  (Read 10466 times)

For clarification, in case anyone is still confused:

  • Escrow means that if your account isn't verified using the Steam Mobile Authenticator using their crappy mobile app, you're forced to use this.
  • Escrow means that when you trade, your items aren't given to them, and the other's items aren't given to you. You are forced to wait for several days.
  • This means if you don't have a phone, you're stuck with this stuff.
  • If there's no whitelist for bots, services like scrap.tf, TF2WH and a plenty of other loving ones will possibly be gone. Forever.
  • This is already being implemented and JavaScript pages are already available to show this.

This really is just awful.

For clarification, in case anyone is still confused:
oh, thanks. why the hell would have implement this stuff

or just emulate android or ios real quick

i dont even know what these are???????
maybe you should explain what they do before acting like they're deathly important

scrap.tf is a site that lets you scrap  weapons, buy/sell hats, items, keys, all that jaz
TF2WH is similar, but trading in item gives credits, and items have their own credit values
a lot of people use it for conveinence since it's fast and easy

It's loving ridiculous with some of the things they've done just to protect handicaps, like remove the /me command because SOMEONE out there thought it was a verification message.
That said, the amount of forumers who have had their accounts compromised or been scammed over the years is ridiculous. Either more people than you think are dumb or it's far too easy to be tricked.

Also I don't see what stops the owners of legitimate bots applying for them to be verified.
With bot trading services it sounds like the biggest issue will be humans remembering to authenticate before trading.

The steam app already runs like stuff. I wouldn't want to risk getting locked out of my account emulating it. This is something you'll have to open every time you run steam.

Or you could go and look them up yourself. If you're not interested in steam trading then you probably shouldn't be trying to say anything here. I personally don't use these sites nor do I play TF2 and I know exactly what they are.

i trade on tf2 and already send emails every time i trade but i set it up like that
Or you could go and look them up yourself.
i asked for a reason, and im asking a person that seems to know a lot about it, and they already answered my question
there was no reason for this

I use dispenser.tf to buy games for like a permanent %50 discount using tf2 keys.
pls volvo no

forgot to mention it needs a phone numer to verify on mobile on app

so no #, no verif

absolutely wrong
i have the verification and it NEVER did this to me
if your PC is unfamiliar (IP, cookies, etc.) then it will do it
otherwise you dont get the msg to enter it

no source, just the fact that setting up mobile authentication for trading bots is almost impossible
if you want sources, read the links OP posted

Which is why they will be exempt from the rule, just like with captcha

there was a 'if no whitelist for bots' in that quote
if there is shoukd be fine

Valve will likely remove this. They usually do remove stuff the community dislikes
