I thought about this, i see they tried to tie the story with modern society's problems by including a black storm trooper to keep the racism aspect down and a female character to keep the feminism down, but come loving on.  Apparently popularity is more important than the original plot

here's my confusion: how is having people who aren't white dudes damaging to the plot? i mean, the star wars universe has always had women and black people so why is it bad for the protagonists to be one of them? like, it doesn't make a difference really as long as the actors are skilled (which they are)

I think the point is it says more about Kylo Ren's complete lack of lightsaber skills, than it does about Rey's unnatural greatness.

What was more alarming was how well Finn was able to hold Kylo off for, despite having no melee practice at all.

yeah i've always wondered like


lightsaber fighting must be really easy cus you don't really have to learn how to handle a blade. with a sword, if you don't swing it right you can't cut something, but with a lightsaber, that's not an issue at all.

The saber fights between Finn/Ren and Rey/Ren were rad as hell, it looked like two people trying to loving kill each other instead of a drawn out overly-choreographed snoozefest. Their fight even reminded me a bit of when Luke went ham at the end of RotJ; there was no elegance or style or finesse, just raw emotion being channeled into hitting someone with a glowstick and trying not to be hit by theirs.

What was more alarming was how well Finn was able to hold Kylo off for, despite having no melee practice at all.

Finn might be a traitor but he was still a trained stormtrooper, he probably knows a thing or two about how to fight with a melee weapon. And he still got his ass whooped in the end, so I don't really think that was a problem. If he had beaten Ren, I would have called shenanigans though

He'll keep busy with other projects.
Maybe a new Star Trek is in the pipeline.

There is. JJ isn't directing it though. It looks like poopycrap. (Those last two statements aren't related because JJ's most recent trek was also poopycrap, I just wanted to say my thoughts on the trailer.)
