Author Topic: [Religion Megathread] - What's your faith?  (Read 6202 times)

I remember back in 6th grade, whenever I said "I don't believe in god." Everyone's assumption was that I believed in Satan instead. Literally everyone within my grade made that assumption. I wonder why they were so short-sighted, but then again I do live in Florida.

catholics are christans
kinda

i'd switch the 2 poll options to protestant and catholic

Also why is Atheism in the poll? thats not a religion or a faith.
separating Catholicism from Christianity
atheism shouldn't be up on the poll
Yes it should.
It's not a religion, but it's still a valid view to hold and is an option that needs to be represented

Part Jew, part Rasta, part Christian

My life is confusing

sure it's valid but i was going based on thread title strictly. Atheism isn't a faith, which i was assuming this topic was focused on faiths.

Not to say i don't mind it being up, thats just the logic i was following.

technically you have to have faith in yourself that there is no god, because you're risking burning in hell, or whatever the consequences of different religions are.

I personally am Christian. I think what most people don't realize is that a lot of Christians don't think Christianity is a religion. You see, religion is something that binds you to a particular way, or else you face the consequences. Christianity sets people free, the ten commandments are up there for yes, a guide line on what things are moral to do, but it is also there to show us that we will never be able to do those on our own. If you sin and you're a Christian, we believe that it has already been paid, it doesn't matter how good you are, or how many bad things you've done. We see it more as a freedom, rather than a religion.

This is not true in the slightest. Atheism is lack of belief in a god, not a belief that there is no god. The difference is subtle, but it's there.

No, that's not how it works, because that's not what faith means.
Faith is believing something with no evidence to support it.
But Atheism isn't a belief, it's not asserting that God doesn't exist, it's just rejecting an existing assertion by saying "I don't believe you." Not "I know you're wrong"

So then your complaint is the wording of the question, not the answers presented
Most people recognize that Atheism isn't a religion, they just don't know how to word the question

oh boy so this is the new religion thread for this month huh

im a christian

I'm glad that both atheism and non-religious is on the poll. There's a difference between the two. Atheism is the act of specifically not believing in a god. Non-religious is just simply not caring about the religious things going on in the world. That's me.

You forgot satanism btw

while others argue over the poll options who wants to discuss the idea that the catholic church is led by satan ???????

catholics r dum and they have too many sacraments that aren't even Biblically approved

More of a "do what you want" version of Christianity imo.

id say catholicism teeters at the edge of not being christian. biblically speaking its possible to be saved when you are catholic but you have to believe in some teachings that the catholic chuch disagrees with.

the main issue of the catholic church is their assertion that its faith plus works that results in salvation, which is something the new testament writers strongly opposed. see for example ephesians chapter 2 or when paul was writing about the judiaizers, a group of jews who joined the early churches and were trying to teach that in order to be saved you had to not just believe in jesus but also observe old testament law. the OT law was what jesus had come to fulfill, so that doing stuff like sacrificing animals, stoning people, and ritually cleansing yourself was no longer required in order to have a right relationship with god.
