This is all due to confirmation bias.

There are certain people who, when they like something a lot, make it part of their identity. You'll know if they're like that just from being around them. (be it online or otherwise)

These people also tend to be annoying, because they don't have much an idea of who they are. They're not very mature.

These people that tend to be annoying appear to represent the entire fandom because they're more visible, since they only talk about these dumb things they like.

To anyone saying Blockland is a fandom, keep in mind that 1. we aren't feverishly discussing Blockland here, most of the discussion is in off-topic and 2. there are lots of people who don't like Badspot or the state of the game right now and they don't really get any kind of angry reaction

Most people who like something will be pretty chill about it, I agree. These kinds of communities I'd consider "fandoms" but I was talking about the hyperbolic, close-knit fandoms that places like tumblr lend themselves to. (Not even saying that tumblr fandoms are all like that)

i tend to see tumblr as more of a content networking platform than a social networking platform. you don't really see any close-knit fandom communities because it's a really bad place for them to form. however, it is a fantastic platform to network information or things you've made. most of the fandom stuff you see on tumblr will be things like screencaps or fanmade content. the only issue is that, since reblogs are just a way to voluntarily network content, this weird thing happens where people will continuously reblog something that's either wrong, misled, or unfortunately aggressive which can lead to outcomes like we've seen before. people can't really add to a discussion and get recognised unless their contribution becomes as heavily networked. it's almost a sort of natural selection process that rewards controversy as a form of fitness

but most of the fandom stuff that actually happens on tumblr is really nothing worth talking about. there's already such a stigma to both tumblr and fandoms that typically people try to stay away from nonsense because they don't want to be associated with it.

i think that the reason why people hate fandoms so much is because they hate others forcing culture they're not interested in onto them
when i was on a plane bound for new zealand the plane company tried to welcome passengers on by saying "kia ora" or some other native kiwi welcome crap. they also tried putting more culture into our faces and i found that i hated absolutely last bit of it and i think it ties into hating these internet cultures (aka fandoms)

fnaf fandoms try to shove stuff from fnaf down your throats, same with feminism and tumblr and bronies and everything else
i seriousally think i'm on to something here with this anti-culture jazz

i think that's mostly only when people don't have any other way to talk about it. they either talk about it with people that don't care (probably hoping that they'll come to care and then they'll have someone to actually talk to) or they shout into the void without expecting it to talk back. the latter would be your youtube comments, tumblr, twitter, etc. and the former would be anything where you communicate with people nearly directly.

but i think you're probably on the right track; people don't like feeling like they're being pressured into feeling a certain way when they don't. if someone feels like a person is trying to get them to be interested in something when they could really care less, they probably aren't going to be inclined to change their mind.

i generally get annoyed when anyone tries to shove any culture into my face at all, even if it is something small like a greeting. now that i say that i sound like a real douche. amazing

also for the feminism part im just giving some examples to groups that usually push their views into your face which relates to what i was talking about earlier in the quote
