Author Topic: What's this "Both hands on the wheel!" nonsense?  (Read 5349 times)

Should of just dropped him off on the highway telling him to swim back to Florida
if my best friend was driving with his knees on the highway i'd slap the stuff out of him. that's incredibly dangerous

I only use three fingers when i drive

I use a 15" steel wheel to steer and I turn it with my gear shifter stick

ive gotten to where i practice driving with no hands

sometimes ill drive with nothing but my thumb too. thats usually how i re-position the wheel when im not holding it

I use both hands unless I need one of them to do something. My dad drives a stick and he often uses his phone while shifting and steering

I've just decided I am never going anywhere near a road again

we should all drive manual trans like pie, I drive a manual Camry Wagon and keep my hands on the wheel all the time because to not drive no hands you always need 2 on. Last year around this time though I was driving a Cutlass coupe that was Auto and I would just keep one or two fingers on the very bottom of the wheel and slouch in my seat because it was just effortless, if I was even more unsafe like pie is in this situation I could hold long phone conversations or eat/drink at the wheel, things I cant do in my camry at all just because it has manual trans. Every kid should learn Manual first. It causes good habits for new drivers and it only took me three really strugglebus days to get it downpat. Some kids at my school have this misconception that driving manual is only something that race car drivers and old men do for some reason

Why even bother, they are phasing out manual and adding in variable speed transmissions. The only time you ever need to learn manual is if you are driving anything pre-2000 or a "sports" car.

don't know why, are people just too lazy to do anything these days

I drive an automatic yaris sedan. Hills suck.

No, variable speed/automatic is just more efficient now, laziness has nothing to do with this.

It honestly depends on the transmission. Some are good and shift when you need them to, others shift when they want to, such as one designed to bump up MPG's.

Manuals are much cheaper in terms of vehicle price and insurance costs so the main reason I went with a manual. The second reason is that when driving in the mud, it's better to have a manual because you've got more control on the engine's power. My uncle's automatic does have a manual feature but you can over-rev it but not under-rev it otherwise it would shift down.
