Election Day is a domestic political RP in which players pick a political party to align with and then can go about making America great again running this country into the ground building a wall annexing the rest of the world fulfilling their greatest political dreams. You can also run as an independent, although that's quite unlikely to ever work. It takes place in a united Anglosphere (US + UK + CAN + AUS + NZ), using a compromise Westminster/American system, something akin to European systems. Getting elected involves both convincing the public that you're a good important, but actually more importantly, convincing your party that you are a fit leader. There are a few ways to increase party loyalty:
  • Advocate them and increase their popularity
  • "Donations" and "lobbying" (read: bribery)
  • Propose bills they like
  • Being liked by a similar party
And a few ways to decrease it:
  • Running counter to their ideology
  • Denouncing their policies and bills
  • Propose bills they dislike (as an MP)
  • Voting against them (as an MP)
Once you have 20 party loyalty, you can become an official of their party, and be taken more seriously, rather than a guy on the street. At 50 loyalty, you will be added to their list of potential MPs. At 100 loyalty, you will be their prime presidential candidate. Note that if any of these positions are contested (not enough seats won, or multiple >100 candidates), the one with the most loyalty is appointed. Every year, players get a stack of cash to use on "totally legitimate" political practices. This increases with party loyalty.

Players may only exert direct influence if they are a member of Parliament or are President. Thus, gameplay consists of generally the following steps:
  • Convince your party to appoint you as an MP, or if you get very lucky, their leader.
  • Convince the population to elect you and your party.
  • Convince the other MPs and parties to follow your lead and adopt policies or enact bills.
  • Once you're the party leader, manage stances and policies (within reason).
  • If you achieve presidency - partially manage the country as a whole, including foreign policy, like a nation RP.
There is some luck involved here. I will be managing events and such, too.

Some parties (Restoration, Anarchist, Communist, Agrarian, National), if given Presidency or a lot of power in Parliament for a long period of time, can flip the government in a revolution. Here follows a list of parties, which consist of 5 philosophies each with a moderate and extreme version:

The Anglic Government consists of the President and Parliament. Parliament has 100 seats, elected via proportional representation (individual MPs are abstracted). The President is usually the leader of the most popular party, aside from exceptional circumstances and independent winners. Elections occur every 4 years, where 1 IRL day = 1 year, for both Parliament and President.

Acts, bills or repeals may be proposed by the President or any MP, with a limit of one proposal per year (this rule is subject to change). For one to be enacted, it must have a majority in Parliament plus the President's approval or a two-thirds majority in Parliament, even with a Presidential veto. The President may be impeached by Parliament with a two-thirds vote of no confidence. The exception to this rule is government flips, such as the objectives of the extremist groups. These require a two-thirds majority in Parliament AND Presidential approval, two terms in a row! To propose an act, bill, or repeal, PM me with a summary of the bill's text, and I will message back with the chance for each party to vote for it, on a scale of Certain, Probable, Possible, Doubtful, and Never (hover over for more information). Note that I have the final say, so I can veto ridiculous bills.

The Anglosphere is allied to NATO, Japan, South Korea, and Israel.
They are at war with Syria to eliminate terrorists and topple the Assad regime. Russia is supporting Syria in said war, while NATO is supporting us.

Rules
  • Don't be a richard.
  • Don't RP for other people.
  • Don't be a brat about my decisions. Debate is fine.
  • Actually RP! Avoid metagaming - although sneaky deals between candidates is fine, if you tell me.
    • This means actually writing speeches, not just "say inspirational speech to motivate the people."
    • I know that might be a bit of work, but it helps prove your worth as a candidate in-universe.
  • Use common sense.
  • Still don't be a richard.

So how do I join?
Simple. Just say you are. I need a believable in-universe name, and associated party (or independent - you can change later as well). Alternatively, you don't have to be a politician, you can be a lobbyist or diplomat or whatever. Just be aware that this RP is designed around players as politicians, so you may have less Fun™.

why have 10 parties when you can have 2

it's 5x the power in parliament!

Because we all know how that "works".

The thread looks good, but aside from that, it lacks sufficient context outside of what is listed here.  Mind providing your insight?

naturally, at least half of them (the extremist ones) get very little support from the population, but could theoretically explode in membership and viva la revolucion
coalitions will be a pretty major mechanic I think, starting off there's going to be a red-green coalition

Sure.
As I mention, the "country" is an Anglosphere union of the US, UK, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand. Of course, that would never happen in real life, but I think it is an interesting scenario. Otherwise, the world is technologically and diplomatically pretty similar to where it's at today. I'll probably start the RP at 2020 in the midst of another (or the same) Middle Eastern conflict.

The number of independents will likely vary a lot, since they fill up the remaining spots from rounding error.
(I removed the border but only after I uploaded the image :P)

Conservative party.

FYI, multiple people can be in the same party as multiple MPs, but obviously only one can be party leader (determined by party loyalty).
