Author Topic: metro 2033 thread i guess [pls spoiler tag last light spoilers for me]  (Read 2021 times)

dear sweet baby loving jesus please help me

i got to the reds/national socialists warzone with like a handful of bullets (all silenced weapons tho), there's stufftons of enemies (all of which get alerted the millisecond one dies like half a mile away in full darkness), the level is CRIMINALLY dark (i can't see stuff. i turned up my monitor brightness to max, the game's gamma to max, asnd i STILL CANT SEE) and the enemies always seem to stick together

i tried applying stealth but i can barely SEE the enemies at all let alone avoid them

someone who doesn't suck: help me not suck

no

also it now strikes me that the people who make dark games even darker for "muh atmosphere" and "muh immersion" deserve to be the ones getting shot by communists with flashlights, not me

hey i just learned about this game the other day. the marketplace music is the music for MrPaladin's video intros

unless your monitor is like

tactile or some stuff

the dark areas are murder

i never found it that dark
just use the throwing knives and be sniki piki
the stealth segments have always been kind of annoying in metro 2033 the system is really poor

i can just BARELY make something out if i look through the scope of one of my weapons, though the glare off of the lens mostly makes it impossible to actually use it to study my surroundings

without the lens though i'm just as likely to die by walking into one of the million gaps in the floor as i am by walking directly into an enemy by mistake

i have the ammo to kill everyone if i aim carefully; i can't aim carefully if the enemy is actively trying to avoid me because i got spotted and it's so dark i can barely even see where i'm getting shot from to begin with

think like a russian and make best use of sneaki breeki and throwing knives

there's also night vision goggles somewhere around those areas. i never found myself using it though because i saw fine in the dark

edit: also have you tried busting some lights? i don't remember if that alerts anyone or not but staying in the dark is good

you mean you want me to make even MORE dark? are you out of your mind???????????

also i managed to stumble across some goggles from a downed enemy but got immediately gunned down because by the time i actually got them i'd expended all of my ammo

i've tried getting them again but i can't get the ridiculous stealth system to register that stuff again

as for throwing knives: all 4 of my weapons are silent (throwing knives, silenced revolver, silenced rifle, and the bolt sniper). the problem is actually managing to kill an enemy without the entire base feeling a disturbance in the force and immediately sighting me through any wall, at any distance and light level

you mean you want me to make even MORE dark? are you out of your mind???????????
i think the stealth system primarily checks if you're exposed to light or not and the enemies in your vicinity. take out the lights, stab them in the dark. if they come to look for any sound/body, kill them too. russian opportunity

in my experience that's not the case; i stand on a lower platform in complete darkness (green LED and all), fire a bolt above at a guy also patrolling in complete darkness save for glow of his flashlight in an unrelated direction, and someone, somewhere is gonna see or hear that guy fall, and the entire base is gonna come and kill me w/ kalashes

if they do come my way, regardless of their actual intentions to slaughter me with a kalash, they /WILL/ see me through complete darkness and open fire. my only hope is to snipe them while they're trying to notice me, which is really freaking hard because the back of the level doesn't have a faint glow, unlike some of the very bottom

even when i do manage to clear out the entire lower level and one of the upper level enemies without attracting any attention (only happened once, when i got the goggles) there's a cluster of enemies near the front of the bridge that i have to get past, and i don't see any way of killing one without the others noticing

i'm not playing redux

oops I thought they had two separate playmodes on the original

oops I thought they had two separate playmodes on the original
they sorta do
ranger difficulties and normal difficulties
ranger is basically survival mode

the best choice here is to be really persistent and speedy and go for alternative routes
